What an oddly specific question! Wouldn't it be strange if there was some other weirdo who also asked oddly specific questions, and had oddly specific answers from Tom? Anyways, he told me this about 3 months ago: There are normal wolves, dogs, cats, etc. The Mask known as Ephemeral or Neutral created the Keidran race and based their aspects on animals that already existed. One of the other Mask deities created the human race first as an act of Chaos, and Neutral wanted to create a race that would act as a middle-ground between humans and nature. A third one, Order, created the rule-abiding Basitins and placed them on an island far away from the others and their chaos. He just wanted things to be orderly.

In the comic Maren said she had a dog and often groomed it. She said this in the seventh panel on page 950 of the comic: https://twokinds.keenspot.com/comic/950/ While she didn't expressly state it was a non-Keidran dog I doubt she would have said to Raine "Don't take this the wrong way..." if it had been a Keidran.

Oh, I'm a big fan of Florence, too. I love how she's portrayed in "Freefall". BTW, did you know Dr. Bowman made an appearance in the web comic, "Carry On"? It was a couple of years ago, but he was there and talking about his designer wolves.
