A remake of a very old 2004 sketch, suggested by Xac, from back when I was tinkering with the idea of making the Basitins more of a magitech race, to make up for their lack of magic users. They were even going to have airships at one point!

Well, its never too late. It would work quite well as part of the AU 'modern' universe. I could easily envision people like her as a sort of 'Blade Runner' hunting down rogue mages, or as a bounty hunter, or even as regular police. (fuzzy handcuffs included...) 😉😋

TBH, with their militaristic culture, it’s very easy to imagine a Basitin strike force in a modern setting, armed with modern assault weapons.

Yeah, at one point the Na'Rella was going to end up burning down and the gang escaped to the western side of the island, or that little castle location at the top of the big mountain, and they'd take/steal an airship back to the mainland. But I couldn't figure out how to make the pieces fit back together, and things ended up working out with the eastern Basitins in the end. The extra adventure with the Westerners was ultimately cut, sadly, but there wasn't really any call to go there.

Personally, I see more inspiration from Outlaw Star, and I actually think it would have been pretty cool for Keith to have one of those caster guns with a limited supply of ammo, and in some back-against-the-wall situation be like, "I guess it's time for a #4, hope it doesn't drain too much of my life energy..."

in this context, probably. but tom has stated that while basitins are the closest to gunpowder, it would still be a ways off. i think that from a story standpoint that makes sense, but gunpowder is super old, with the earliest records being from 850 China, where they were used as javelin launchers.

i would suspect not, since we've seen what happens when they try to use magic from the tower, and since they would be harnessing the power of whatever they are holding, it would most likely have the same effect.

I think the tower had an effect on them..... i don't think an enchanted item that draws in it's own energy would effect them.

I don't see Sythe as the sniper personality, I think that would be more Natani's speed. Focused combatant. I COULD imagine Sythe as a combat medic....

I tend to agree. It is akin to saying that we could fire a bullet (i.e.: use magic) without the firearms chamber or barrel (i.e: the enchanted item the magic is contained in). But then, what do I know?
