i do agree with kathrin it is fine for conventions and raine does beautiful and i do also agree with raine that is revealing for public use which a convention is as i am sure if i tended to such convention with such revealing clothing i feel like i can't help myself but star at her or other women who wear similar clothing even though it isn't nice todo so though if i were to go to a movie convention i'd dress up as guts and smith my own armour to look like his armour with some padding on the inside to make it more comfortable which i'm sure guts also has with his armour

Yes, you’re right—that is the official wording. However, in the narrower sense, ‘sentient’ simply refers to the ability to feel, such as experiencing joy, suffering, and a basic sense of morality. This applies to all higher animals, including dogs, cats, fish, and even some invertebrates. Keidran, however, are much more than that. They are intelligent, bipedal beings, comparable to us or the humans of Mekkan.

"Sapient" (as in homo sapien sapien) is rather insulting in this context. Sentience referring to morality implies reason and therefore is usually used in common conversation to imply the higher reasoning that only humans possess IRL. It's partly why sentience is a more common term. As a non human, I would definitely find it insulting to be referred to as 'sapient' as opposed to sentient and would prefer 'reasoning intelligent person'. Of course, some may find this too 'DEI' for their liking.😅

Thank you, wjd1206. As someone who isn’t a native speaker, I’ve once again learned something new about the connotations of certain English words. A quick additional Google search shows that sentient is actually commonly used in the way it’s intended here in reference to the Keidran. A literal translation doesn’t quite capture the full meaning. What seems important to me in this context is the implied equivalence between Keidran intelligence and that of the other peoples of Mekkan. And when it comes to our fellow animals — they might be far more intelligent than we generally assume. It’s just that their way of thinking is completely foreign to us. I would give anything to be able to glimpse into the mind of my dog or my cats, just once.
