Their having nearly identical genetics shouldn't have any affect on Kat's lack of fertility. I am curious as to whether Kit, as a male feline/canine would be able to sire children. That said, the masks seem to have the ability to change fertility dynamics on a whim. Ephemural was able to alter things so that humans and keidran are able to interbreed. It is probable that one of the masks could allow canine/feline hybrids to have children. Kat is supposed to be sterile, but that could change.

Also, if Kit and Kat produced offspring, it would be severe inbreeding. The risk with inbreeding is that there is an increased possibility of rare recessive genes from the mother and father combining and expressing themselves. This is problematic enough that human cultures have taboos about inbreeding.

Fortunately, the genetics in Mekkan are not yet so advanced that anyone could prosecute Kat for inbreeding... and if I remember correctly, there is also an understandable reason for Kat's infertility. So the table could be a solution - perhaps if Zen puts his hand on it at the same time ...

Contrary to popular belief irl, inbreeding (particularly between immediate family) was a taboo even back in ancient Greece. (The inbreeding plot in the Odyssey was popular for the same reason taboo subjects in fiction is still popular.) It was only really a thing in certain royal families to maintain the bloodline (but even then was usually between half siblings).

Actually, I was thinking of the reason might be more akin to the reason different species can't interbreed; different numbers and layouts of DNA, canines are 78 chromosomes and felines are 38. Same materials, not in the same locations. Kat would be somewhere in between. Kit would have to match since the only difference is xy rather than xx. Just my thought process, not an irl statement.

Ultimately, what we have here is a joke that plays on a pun and a “magic” table. As mentioned earlier by K_he4d and others, the table doesn’t actually create anything in the official lore—it only teleports previously stored items. I doubt Trace has ever stored any Kit Kats… So, having a serious discussion about this probably isn’t worth the effort. But the mind games are fun.

If the gender swapping in Kit's universe remains in effect, Zen would be a member of the Assassin Sisters in which her brother Natani originally disguised himself as a girl until that accident damaged his soul and the link with Zen led Natani to adopt a female sexual identity which "she" maintained with magical illusions. The only issue I would have with that is that the Wolf culture would also have to alter in a way that would make it advantageous for the young Natani to want/need to disguise himself as a girl. Would the forest wolves be a matriarchy in the gender flipped universe?

I think Kat's infertility could be related to her being a hybrid. It is similar to the Mule, which is the offspring of a horse and a donkey. It is also considered to be sterile.

Actually, the summoning table storage would probably keep 'recipes' that allow it to magically assemble whatever you wish at your request; otherwise the foodstuff would possibly go bad (even with stasis there is entropy).
