Yeah, Clovis is meant to be the metaphorical shadow of Natani. Just like Trace has his metaphorical and literal shadow version of himself.

If you think about it, Nora tried to help him by changing him to her, so that Clovis would have to face her internal problem. But, she is still ran away from them and is using magic to fix them. If Clovis had faced to her problems, she could have used her talents of manipulation to change society to be more accepting of foxes and females.

They do not have opposite personality. They actually are quite similar. Its just that they made opposite choices with a face with the same problem. By shadow, I'm saying that Clovis made the wrong choice which contrasts with Natani who made the right choice. In short, Natani could have ended up just like Clovis.
