Hopefully, this time, Nora doesn't traumatize poor Meranda again lol They both look amazing! :)

millington

Little did Merenda know, Nora will eat her this time

Lenovo sasa

Damn Nora is getting really sassy

NimiBestGirl

I feel inclined to incite a riot if this one doesn’t win the color votes at the end of the month

okami-zero

"Getting"? I think she's at least 50% sass at all times. XD

Stephen Gilberg

Not that either of them has colorful fur.

Just a Cat

Its Merenda! Yippee!!!!

Ezekiel S. Miles

A basitin Nora. Is that a new form for her? It's hard to keep track sometimes

InTheLionsDen

Both of them and the scene are gorgeous. The dialogue and inserts are all bonus fun. Thank you, Tom

Tiglish

ah yes, Prude Not having Prude being insufferable just sound fine

Tiger

Yes please

Sernard

Wait is she asking if they use the ink to get high and disinhibited or something ? xD

Ezekiel S. Miles

Oooooh thanks for that. Hopefully this one gets colored in! 💙

ArtAnimationFan

Hearing from Nora herself about how she can find Basitins to be insufferably prude, I’m quite shocked that she doesn’t prank Keith more often.

patronMan50

Looks great! Interesting how Merenda always seems to have her bra slipping off on one arm. Hopefully we'll see more of the other Western Basitin girls in future sketches.

Sebastian Hildebrand

I don't know how to say this, but Nora looks at her in an unusually monogamous way.

Daniel Frisker

I wish we got more posts with Carver, I wonder what he’s up to on the island.

Daniel Frisker

I’d be curious to see more of what carver is doing while he’s there

Chrysalis

It might just be two painted stripes, but *technically* the ankles are covered.

Alex

You missed an "out" after the "eat her" 😏

patronMan50

Same. I had suggested a sketch earlier this year about Carver being the center of attention of the 3 Western Basitin girls he met when he arrived on the beach. It didn't get enough votes though. I'll have to try again.

Merenda is so cute! 🥰

Drazgon

So western basitins are always high on their pulp? I... choose to not see that as a lore drop until confirmed.

Hunter_emerald07

Wow this is the first time i see Nora in basitin western form dang look hot

SCD

Nora: I'm not. Merenda: What do you mean by that? (Nora turns back into her dragon form) Nora: Boo! Merenda: AAAHH!!!

Thomas Fischbach

It doesn't make them "high", but it dulls their connection to Eternal, the Mask of Order, which can feel like a very mild euphoria. It allows them to be more individual and less self-conscious. Over generations it's caused their hair to turn white, making them slightly different than their eastern cousins even in their natural state.

Professor Ryuusei

Hear me out: Nora meeting Matriarch Dahlia. How would it happen?

Drazgon

Fascinating... Thanks for the lore drop, Tom. Each one of them are precious to me. More than half if of western basitins you pictured don't have white hair though. https://www.patreon.com/posts/undercover-71475005 It changes my perception of your world, I couldn't imagine that people are what they are not because of what they are or how they are created, but due to constant connection with the creator that can be severed. It makes basitins not... natural, not... self-sufficient even. Did Mercurial pulled out that shit too, maybe humans wage wars only due to that their chaotic influence? Other stories try to lure us away from concept of Devil pushing people to evil and put responsibility on our own shoulders.

Thomas Fischbach

Yeah, not all of them do. Depends on the family. Not all Western Basitins wear the markings, or don't have family in the past that used it. And no, the effects of the masks aren't like, actively maintained, it's just how they were originally designed in the first place. Basitins are, by nature, quite reserved and more 'hive-minded' in a way than humans. It's simply their nature. The only way Western Basitin deviated a little is due to the unique fruit, which helped shape their culture through generations of rituals. I just wanted to be clear the fruit isn't like a drug in the way we think of them. It likely would have very little or no effect on an Eastern Basitin who was set in their ways. It just allows them the option to act in ways that deviate from Order's original design specs, if they wanted to. The fruit was likely originally seeded by Chaos to mess with Order.

Drazgon

Got you. People are indeed are what they are or what are designed to be, no constant connection needed. That's a relief 😅 And the fruit is just shifting/messing with their nature a bit via prolong exposure, much like an evolution factor. No actual constant involvement of neither of Masks needed. It was just your word choosing 'dulls connection' that got me confused.

The GreenBlackSoul

I love learning more about Basitin. Tom, i thank you so much for creating this amazing people.

Oswald

Nora looking great in all her forms, and the western girl has a name now, Merenda

Combak

Ah, nice! Love the bit of background lore too!

patronMan50

I've been reading the Wings of Fire series for a while. I have noticed some similarities between the RainWings of that series and the Western Basitins. The RainWings, like the Western Basitins, are fairly laidback, compared to dragons from the other tribes. However, the other tribes typically view them as being lazy and stupid, despite often being neither. On page 560 of Twokinds, Albion Alabaster, the intelligence general, thinks of Keith's mom as a harlot since she's a Westerner. Makes me wonder if Western Basitins are similarly stereotyped as being promiscuous because of their laidback nature and much less modest clothing compared to their Eastern counterparts.

Canis Lupis Rex

Gotta admit....Nora looks VERY cute as a Western Basitin....I wonder how she would look WITH clothes? 🥰

Skye Stardreamer

So Nora's magic basically makes her a shapeshifter, if she wants to be...? Do all dragons have that kind of connection to magic, that they are just naturally very very powerful mages just generally, or do they kind of 'specialize' in one form of magic or another... or is that just a Nora thing...? ...I wonder what using magic feels like, to the person doing it...

eddi_TBH

I never thought of the West Basitin as prudes. Nora must have pretty high standards for a hedonist to be recognized.

Wild Space Saga

If memory serves, Tom did an overview of dragons, and basically said that their very nature was magic, so it's basically something they know how to do, but still have to practice. This is why Reni's "human" form is a bit off in the chest area, and Nora doesn't like taking human forms because she finds walking with human feet awkward.

Skye Stardreamer

Huh, I missed that part somehow. But, cool to know. Thanks!

cee

Nice to see Nora comfortable enough to participate, not dominate, socially. Seems she may have happened on a BFF?

Austin Atkins

I don’t think so. Keith refers to groups east and west as eastern and western basitins for example. So I do think basitin is singular and basitins is plural

Drazgon

she called east basitins prudes on the sketch.

Dan Vaelling

Not really a fan of that lore bit, it feels made up on the spot with no consideration for the established canon. Keith has never been shown to come into contact with the fruit, yet he's able to resist orders and stand up against rules. It was because of his western mother, not some bodypaint. This tidbit directly contradicts the comic. My theory is that Order intentionally created the divide and cultural differences between eastern and western basitins, so they would have someone to wage war with while being isolated, honing and maintaining their martial prowess in the process. With how the easterners resemble humans and the easterners keidran, they're effectively training to fight against the mainland races, even if they don't realise it.

564ugtg54645

Keiths mother was an western Basitin, and as Tom mentioned after generations some of the resistance is hereditary.

Hafunui

I don't think the fruit gives you powers, it's just a convenient excuse to wear less clothes and not cover their ankles. Like a cultural loophole.

Dan Vaelling

That doesn't really make any sense though, and the fruit was never once mentioned in comic, despite ample opportunity.

Cecil475

I wonder what Merenda thinks of Nora's advances. She looks uncomfortable.

patronMan50

Seeing as how Merenda stutters and has breaks in her dialogue, I'd say that's likely.

Daniel Frisker

Please do, I think it could also be used as a good way to communicate differences in how the other groups of basitin’s treat keidran.

patronMan50

Glad you like my idea! I see what you mean. Thanks for the feedback.

Hafunui

I think you're reading way too much into it. Fruit's have been used as natural dyes for ages in real life. They use some kind of white pulp because their fur is naturally dark. They tint it some other colour for Nora because her fur is already white. Bodypainting satisfies their desire for modesty. Bodypaint is more revealing than traditional clothing so this explains Nora's remark about this "substance" allowing them to defy their "prudish" nature. Just like how clothes in real life preserve our own modesty. There's no mind-altering coconut or anything. In fact, fruit was never mentioned. I assume they're using chalk or limestone paste. (unless they do indeed have a white-pulped fruit)

eddi_TBH

That makes more sense. Thank you.

Drazgon

Tom's dragons have natural inclination to learn shapeshifting like birds to fly - still need to learn that. Reni is very young, hence lack of said skill. But it's not something you can learn as a mage without said inclination. Unless you can understand, memorize and maintain your focus on the entirety of complexity of biology down to shape of proteins during your conjuring, which is impossible. Skillful human mages that specialize on that can do as much as change the hair/skin color temporarily or grow a tooth back, and pretty much anything that modern plastic surgery can do and then some since magic is a better instrument than surgical knifes. Because knowledge required to do that is learnable.

Killianti

I like to imagine that this is just based on folklore and legend, and western basitins choose to believe it because it allows them to explain their differences with their eastern rivals in a tangible way.

Drayco84

Nora normally goes around nude. Compared to that, almost anything would seem prudish. There's a couple reasons for this... 1: Where are you going to find pants in her size? 2: YOU tell her she's indecent and needs to put clothes on. I'm too tender and possibly good with ketchup.

ocbrad1

Definitely liking where Nora's mind is...

eddi_TBH

Reni has Kat make her outfits. With sometimes amusing results, like trying to design pants. That one is in the gallery.

RivCA

I think it's been established there is a white-pulped fruit, as the markings have to be made every day. As for Keith, he's able to defy orders because his father gave the example of being quite the rebel. Anyone saying that his mother is the reason needs to double check and realize it takes two to tango.

RivCA

I'm reminded of DJ Derg using magic to form actual ears for his headphones.

StaggyTheBoyscoutSlayer

Still, being Italian I can't help but smile at Merenda's name. snack... and a good snack, I'd say XD

Glenn Sellers

Since the markings on the Western Basitins are unique to the individual (at least, I'm guessing they are), I'd hate to be Tom doing a drawing of 10+ Western Basitins. That would be enough to make him say an emphatic "NO!" to such a drawing. LOL

Glenn Sellers

Heaven forfend! Nora wearing clothing? Are you a heretic!? LOL

Glenn Sellers

True. Of course, Albion probably thinks that of all Western Basitin women because (as I believe was implied), they mate whenever the urge strikes and not during a mating "season" as Eastern Basitins do.

Canis Lupis Rex

Sometimes...wearing seductive clothes makes things MORE hotter! 😁
