From the original sketch, I imagine it was day time rather than night time but this fits given the rage Natani is unleashing.

To me, it looks to be daytime in the colored version too, just in a part of a forest with a very dense canopy. Look at the daylight colors in the upper left :)

Looks more like either dawn or some of Natani's fireballs starting a forest fire to me. I would not be surprised if he misses many times to hit a fast and small target. In fact, if you look at each fireball, they cast a small light to otherwise dark areas.
