He was a man, but in "the dragon masquerade" we learn he was turn into a female by Lady Nora. He hide the fact he is now a female because he think Female are weak, and because is gang is full of bad person who would turn against him if they knew he is a girl now. (It's suggested that his men would even try to rape him if they knew)

Natani (and Zen as well) hate Clovis, and vice versa, because he orchestrated the spell that bridged their minds. Him being a jerk crime boss, he forced them to do a heist at a very prestigious ball hosted by Lady Nora herself, blackmailing the siblings (if they failed/refused, Clovis would break the link). Long story short, Nora's strong magic helped the twins break their shackles to Clovis and punish the crime boss by changing his gender. Thus, Clovis has a grudge on the Assassin Bros and they dislike him as well.

Dragon Masquerade is a spin-off canon story about what happened between Magi Brothers, Clovis, Lady Nora and Rose. In the end of all this - Clovis was turned into a female for being a chauvinist and woman-abuser, Zen and Natani got off his hook and Rose now remember Natani as a burglair that stole her moment of being a Chosen Keidran. :3

More she super charged it and the energy changed his teleport from "Targeted" to "Random Destination" and that's just where he ended up. He could've just as easily ended up in Adeile's bedroom.
