I'm looking forward to seeing this side project come into fruition. Is it going to be in the same canon, just a lot later, or in a completely different timeline? Also, what exactly is bringing these two together? It looks so cute anyhow. I love it!

To answer to the best of what’s known, because the answers likely would be considered spoilers, yes, same canon, much later. Sam likely grew up with him (Eric and Kat situation) or took him in during his travels (kind of like Trace and Flora, but different). Beyond that, we’re unlikely to get too many answers because #Spoilers.

Beyond that (Wrinry was canceled if I recall correctly), I can’t think of anything that isn’t the mainline story arc, but is within the canon world of the comic. Pretty much spot on, except in the actual comic the Templar have kind of become a type of magic bearing military regime. Think Avatar: The Last Airbender’s 🔥🔥Fire Nation🔥🔥. As for the 100 years. We don’t know for sure. Tom’s working on this as either a second series to start, or something once he finishes the main comic story arc.

Your pronunciation for Basitin may be considered correct as a manner of dialectical difference because the A can make an “ah” sound, and in old English the word in was pronounced “een”. How I typed it is reportedly how Tom pronounces it though.

There aren’t very many details about these two characters, because they’re part of a side project that Tom is working on. It is heavily implied that Sam (the human) loves or grew up with Colin (El Doggo).

I realize there aren't many details, I just thought Sam was a lot younger. This pic could be just an innocent pic of a girl cuddling on her puppy but at some point it starts to look less and less so. Also, it's getting to the point where this side project kinda needs it's own category in the side bar.
