Kind of screwed my back over again. No, it's based off of a very popular anime movie from the 80's called Akira. It's a fantastic movie and is very influential in the movie industry since it came out. I highly recommend it, though it is very graphic, don't watch it with kiddos lol. *Edit* Ninja'd by Light. :)

The glowing outline one actually looks more realistic to me, like a Fresnel effect created by the back lighting. Especially since such an effect is often much more noticeable on fur in real life due to the light scattering.
