Get rid of them all or I’m going to ask for Reni to help find a magic inhibitor just to escape this madness!” Keith: “Um… I don’t know how to… Laura? I thought you were gone!” Natani: “Not again! One moment!” *Exits Mindscape briefly into real world. Turns off the Neuralink/Nervegear that Youngtani connected to Both Natani and Keith while Natani was distracted by Zen being upset about Laura’s presence* Meanwhile, in Mindscape… Laura: “I don’t know, I just tripped on your father’s helmet and fell into Natani and then I was here… wait? Where are you going?” *Keith vanishes, replaced by the word “Disconnected” before Natani returns* Natani: “Where were we? Thank you both for your well-wishes. DarthKeidran: It's actually not a lot like the Hollywood portrayal. Usually they try to over-dramatize it for horror story plot twists or similar things, but like with any mental illness, people with DID are more likely to be the victims of violence than the perpetrators. Aside from that, the struggles aren't necessarily better or worse, but usually they're just... different. It can vary a lot between different systems, so obviously YMMV, but in our case, it usually involves various disagreements between system members, the "amnesia barriers" which seem more like a loss of ability to comprehend memories moreso than a loss of the actual memories themselves, and the fact that relationships are pretty complicated, since we're legally married to one person (who has OSDD), but two of our system members are in a long-distance (which may not be long-distance forever, if we ever manage to leave this country) poly relationship with two members of our best friends' system (they also have DID), and we're not sure how to satisfy everyone... Also, one of our members really, REALLY doesn't like the blending that can occur as a result of coconsciousness, since he's an introject of a character who spent most of their life fearing the possibility that their thoughts might not be their own... Still, the fact that we have our friends to relate to has been a huge help for us. -Amarin

I suppose I should explain some of the terms, if that helps... DID: Dissociative Identity Disorder. Formerly known as Multiple Personality Disorder, the name was changed in order to more accurately reflect the nature of the disorder. It occurs when severe trauma during childhood, often (but not always) a result of child abuse, causes the formation of multiple people within the same brain/body, each having separate identities, names, memories, personalities, thoughts, and so on. As with other dissociative disorders, DID also involves dissociative symptoms such as lapses in memory which go beyond simple forgetfulness, feelings of detachment from one's body or from reality, feelings of not knowing who you are, feelings of losing control of one's body, and so on. In many cases, different system members can take control of the body without warning, which can be quite inconvenient or even dangerous for other system members of the system as a whole, but a lot of systems have learned to internally work together in order to avoid problems. System: A group of people who, through DID, occupy the same brain/body, and also a term used to refer to said group as a unit. In our case, we prefer to use the term "system member" to refer to the members of the system, but the term "alter" is more commonly used among the DID community. Introject: A system member whose identity, name, memories, personality, thoughts, etc., are based on outside sources. Examples of such outside sources include people whom the system has encountered, famous people, fictional characters, and so on. Our system has multiple introjects from a story we're working on together (though we're not *entirely* sure if they count as introjects, since the story draws heavily from the things that happened to the body we occupy and the experiences that led to us having DID in the first place, and so we're not sure what came first, the story, or the system members who have roles in the story), and they actually remember having lived the same lives the characters they're introjects of lived in the story. OSDD: Other Specified Dissociative Disorder. It's basically DID, but with less separation between members of the same the system - in our husband's case, all of the members of his system, while having very different personalities and memories, all consider themselves to be some version of the same person, and all go by the same name. Blending: When the distinction between two system members becomes less defined, and certain things can become mixed up between system members. Coconsciousness: When two or more system members are "awake" at the same time. -Amarin
