Has he not told Tom about it? There is a possibility Tom would redo a sketch if the suggester is not satisfied. He did it with the Laura telling Natani Keith's Kinks sketch.

I like Mihari, but there were also some very cute cheetah keidran in The Dragon Masquerade. Perhaps that's what the requester was thinking of.

As furry simply means having an appreciation for anthro art, I'd say he is. "No" would be a very odd answer here. But if you're attaching a bunch of other stuff to that like some people do, maybe not. For example, I am a furry in tons of ways, some less pure than others, but I do not like one thing that many assume makes a furry - fur suits. I also don't really have a fursona, though I do have a character that I used to roleplay who is a wolf that many of my old friends associate me with.

I drew Mihari because she's a friend of mine who I play D&D with every weekend, so she was the first cheetah that came to mind. I thought the drawing came out really well. I'm sorry the suggester didn't like it.

Tom never considered himself a furry, but last year he went to his first furry convention and he is planning on going again this year, so I'd say he is starting to embrace the community a little more even if he doesn't consider himself a furry.

2026-10-08 12:00 Man, been following this comic for 5 years now but I've never commented here until I saw this comment chain. Y'all making it sound like Tom violated some ancient code or something. Really wasn't Toms fault here or anything, if someone is having "hard feelings" over this whole situation, that's honestly pretty immature. :/

I had to go back and check on this one, but there were no cheetahs in The Dragon Masquerade. Nor has any other cheetah but me shown up in any of the Twokinds universe. Now if they did mean the triplets from that, then yah, that's totally different. Those are servals, or some kind of other species, they lacked all of the defining cheetah marks, and their spots weren't even spots, they were rosettes. Like a leopard, jaguar, or the aforementioned serval. I am sorry again that Van Korben didn't like it, it's a really nice sketch.

For me to be clear, when I said “Cheetah Keidran”, I meant an actual species of Keidran that are cheetahs. Nice work though

While I would assert that there is indeed somewhat an unwritten expectation of Tom to put a firm effort into honoring and executing on the authors' intentions of their suggestions where possible, in this case I think he was totally fine. Van put an incredibly vague suggestion into the mix, "Cheetah Keidran" and it's more than fair for Tom to have interpreted that as someone wanting to see more of the "Cheetah Keidran" that was cameo'd on page 942.

@MrEase I believe you missed my meaning. I never implied anyone was downright disrespectful, I implied that everyone seems to be giving Tom a hard time over a silly issue. That's all. It's silly for anyone to be getting upset over this. EDIT: Found your other comment as well. I'd like to bring attention that I have no intention of attacking or blaming anyone, including you. ^^ I just was rather upset that people seemed to point fingers at Tom. If I'm inferring things incorrectly though then I apologize.

It's why I'm an Ex-furry. My hometown furry community threw me under a bus without confirming someone's stretched truth complaint about me. Someone else chose to live in fear that I would leak her secret lewd lifestyle after stumbling on her own self made adult website. Without even bringing up the issue. I have to leave the country or travel 3 hours to meet up with other furries as a result now. And what does that person get? Guest of Honor privileges at some camp convention up here in Canada.

I would say it depends on your definition. And I don’t think it will ever be confirmed or deneid officially, so it’s just how you see it. I would say from just the comic no, but I’m not sure what all other stuff he does, so I won’t really put an opinion on that field of things.

He has said before that he does not identify as a furry. He just likes animal people. That was a few years ago though, so maybe he feels differently about it, but that's up to him.
