I believe that the real question is whether we the readers want him to take it off, or if we'd prefer for this story to join the canon of the main story.

They're so adorable together, and Nibbly isn't just an animal of some lesser intelligence -- she's sentient, intelligent and brave -- and truly devoted to Sythe! She has *earned* this (already tearing up a bit, not ashamed to say!) I can't imagine what important plot purpose would be served by having her change back --

Turns out, the only one who can take it off is Nibbly since it hit the floor, so the collar was all like: “oh, they weren’t going to put me on something after all. #Fumble LOL” and then she touched it as she was growing/transforming into it.

Gotta admit, I would love for something to happen that causes Nibbs to stay a keidran permanently. But knowing Tom, he has something entirely different in mind for the story, and I'll end up loving whatever that is.

She's technically more capable in small squirrel mode, being able to walk and all. Doesn't seem to affect her vocal capacity (still only squirrel noises) or her (admittedly high) intelligence

It doesn't seem like she really cares one way or the other. She doesn't seem to be any more or less happy now than before. If anything, I'd bet she just wants it off because it's making Scythe act weird.
