My dog likes to go outside and sit in the sun for a bit before heading off to shadier spots or coming inside. So I guess there’s something pleasant about it. At least they don’t have to worry about putting on sunblock.

What makes you certain that it isn't a tumor? Benign non-cancerous tumors are literally the most common cause of gigantism in the world. It also makes sense because if it were a thyroid problem or cancer I'm fairly certain that Adelaide would have noticed by now. I actually looked this stuff up you know!
