I liked Raine X Sythe because they seemed so happy together and were hitting it off well before the shackle was broken. Then I wound up shipping Raine X Zen because it seemed like she may have seen something in him, and that the whole “thanks for saving my life” situation could have prompted Zen to get with her. Then this one as These two began hanging out more and Red became less toxic behavior-wise. They’re all good ships, Raine and Red are just lower in my ranking for Raine X ______ ships.

Not everyone needs to be paired up with another character during the events of a story. This leads into the trope "pair the spares" where forced, barely-believable relationships are shoved into the cast just so no one is single. It's really okay for someone to not fall in love with another cast member during the story. Maybe they find someone well after it's concluded, or they just never feel the need. Some people don't need romance to feel fulfilled. So far, Raine hasn't given any sign that she feels incomplete or longing for her "other half".

@Volpethrope You are correct there, but the whole point with Fan-Shipping is effectively what if scenarios and in some cases just to ship it for no reason. Yes it could be a “pair the spares” situation, but all of the characters are fairly important in their own right, which kind of begs the question, Who would you consider to be the “spare tires”. Two examples of implausible, and rather disturbing, ships I’ve seen here are: Clovis X Zen/Natani; and Zen X Natani. They’re things that are about 99.9% unlikely to occur in comic, but people still ship them.

Gorgeous art, but not going to lie I'm not sure about Red. Maybe I just need to learn more about him as the comic goes but right now he's in my least favorite and Raine is one of my most favorite, so pairing them up feels weird to me. Doesn't ruin the story at all I LOVE Two Kinds and Tom's art. Just my feelings on the ship

I feel like Red, while not exactly undeveloped as a character, has a lot of stuff both in his background, and in his head, that we just haven’t seen yet. He’s has grown since he was first introduced, but not much has actually been shown from his point of view, so we haven’t seen it.

I find it quite funny. Maren is somewhat anti-Kieran, hating them quite a lot as well, she’s just less outspoken about it. And, like Red, she is reevaluating her opinions on them.

What about MaddieXMaive. I consider that disturbing. Especially considering Maddie’s actual age. Yes, they will eventually reach the same level of maturity due to Maive ageing faster, but it’s still quite weird.

I've just gotta say it, people seriously need to chill about Red. I'm not even sure I'd call him racist anymore. What's the last overtly racist thing he's said? Other than that, he's an idiot with a bit of a violent streak, but if people can warm up to Eric, who was a literal slaver before he met up with the gang, I don't get what's got them so hung up over Red.

@Thisguy you have a good point there. I can’t remember who, but someone who was suggesting some Maddie X Maeve stuff said Tom told them that he wasn’t very comfortable with that ship. And it’s probably because until Maeve’s a few years older, it is a borderline pedophilia ship. Until it was revealed that Maddie’s almost 18, I kind of felt the same about the Maddie X Keith ship that was floating around for a while. Also, in MoppyPuppy’s thread, I know it was a joke, my comment was a bit facetious, but I’m not the best at written sarcasm.

Well said. At worst, Red is a jerk with a heart of gold who speaks without thinking. His key motivation seems to be to protect his friends. People seem too eager to call him a bigot and a racist, but we’re holding him to our values. In Twokinds, he merely has the same attitude as the majority of the human kingdoms, something he was taught from a young age. And he’s also witnessed several wolf attacks on villages, so the distrust in wolves is not unfounded. Admittedly, we haven’t seen very many other humans, so Red does seem to come off as the worst in the main cast. But even Maren hates wolves nearly as much as he does, she’s just less outspoken and expresses it more with a cold demeanour. At the end of the day, Red cannot be judged by his past behaviour which is a product of how he was brought up, but by how he is willing to change and accept he may be wrong. In this way, he is actually much better than Eric, who While kind to Keidran, has no intention to stop slaving, or Trace, who was 10 times worse, but lost his memory. Red has actually had to change his mind the hard way, forced to rethink his values. Does this make him a good match for Raine? Well, he seems like a nice guy outside of the Keidran hate thing, town militia, wants to protect, interest in theatre, willingness to make sacrifices and support the people he cares about. But I’ll let Tom decide, all i’m Saying is Red needs to be given a chance to change and become better, to break out of the attitudes he was taught, and Raine seems to be good at that.

Do you think showing a gay couple on a popular sitcom might move people to think it's ok? Representation can do a lot to further progress. Unfortunately it's a double-edged sword because representation of bad things can further their normalization as well. Red and Raine's relationship involves a lot of mental abuse for her. To be fair to Red, it's not inflicted intentionally, but it most definitely is inflicted. He can fucking destroy her self-image with another bigoted slip of the tongue but people will look at this and say "aww, but look at how cute they are together!" Ya I disapprove of this "sweet" depiction because their relationship is awful and this helps to normalize the abuse.

They trash Red because they want Raine to hook up with someone else (usually Zen). That's literally the only reason.

I like Red myself. Wasn't sure at first, but his willingness to rethink his values and attitudes is a major positive. He's opening up to the idea that not 'all' Kaidren are evil monsters. He is even willing to own up to his flaw of speaking without thinking and putting his foot in his mouth and apologize. He's trying to be better which is a huge thing.

Well, I think it's OK if somebody dislikes any particular picture. We bring our own ideas and it happens to everyone sometimes that he/she doesn't like where things are going. There's a freedom of speech, so we are lucky we can agree or disagree regardless of the majority.
