Runeru

There is so much action here! The feline freaking rocks!

Arent

The Vikings are coming!! Run!!11 Oh, but they are fluffy.

Richard Hansen

If it said Swedish, Sabaton fans know what song they would be singing.

Arukino

so..... no run?

ProudLoneWolf

We come from the land of the ice and snow, from the midnight sun, where the hot springs flow.

Remmus

Time to pillage the women and kidnap the village.

CrRAR

For land! For liberty! For... PATS!

*vailiant growls intensify*

Some history of the (real life) Norwegian Forest Cat: originally short-haired, brought to Norway by the Vikings, and then interbred with other European long-haired breeds (such as the Angora), brought there by Crusaders. The cats are probably the descendants of the cat of Viking legend, the “skogkatt”, which was famously known for scaling sheer rock-cliffs, with its strong claws. Bred by Vikings to serve as mousers on their farms, as well as on their ships, the cats are one of the few domestic breeds to have no fear of water, and actually do have a water-shedding outer layer of fur, with thick cottony insulating fur underneath. They are large, strong, and incredibly hardy to harsh weather conditions. They are very similar to the American Maine Coon breed.

Blizzard Snow Mew

We had a Maine Coon that would lay in the sink with the water running a little bit and lick it off the puddle that formed on his side 😂

Adamas

Huh I thought the Maine Coon and the Norwegian were branches from the same line, much like the Newfoundland and the St. Bernard.

MiDoFox

Viking Keidran: ÉG RÍF ÞIG Í BITA. Human Templar: Tace cor tuum. Basitin general in the distance: 放て

Trollman906

I can’t tell if it’s a Viking or Shield Maiden

Sons of Lorgar

No run, you only get enslaved or die tired...

@Adamas - Surprisingly no, it's just an interesting coincidence that the two breeds ended up so similar to each other. Maine Coons are an entirely “home-brewed” breed, completely from North American “mutts”. My very first cat was actually a Maine Coon!

The Furry Centinel

Who said that in war there is no place for soft or fluffy stuff, XD!!!

Travis9x

Could easily be either one. Vikings were one of the few warrior-societies with equal participation (and respect), of both male and female warriors. Also, during the sketch, Tom stated that the “gender is Viking”. 😆

mr dude

It's amazing to see how one person's art can improve over the years, with constant practice and in increments too small to notice

Mark Temple

does it matter? either way they'll win.

Sons of Lorgar

Technically, you are wrong. The Norse societies did not have equal participation when going viking. While the social status of the free man and free woman was equal, the women had very clear responsibilities as the head of the household. Managing the slaves and servants, planning and organising the stores, food production and the cattle as well as beeing the keeper of the keys. The farm itself was usually a gift to her from the groom or his parents as part of the wedding ceremony, and she would keep it in case of a legal divorce. The groom would have recived a different gift of equal value in return and that would be his to keep in a divorce. Also, Viking is a verb meaning "to go on a raid" in search of slaves and plunder. It's not a noun.

Mark Temple

so do Forest Cat Beserkers scream and leap?

ThirdKind

Just hold this picture up and then listen

Jacobus Peterson

No, that would be the jungle ratcats of Kzin, although the northern white furrs of Caiat may have had similar customs.

Jacobus Peterson

Two of these were said to draw Freya's chariot in Norse mythology.

Travis9x

More recent archeological analysis would disagree with you. Many of the remains of Viking warriors, originally labeled as males (mostly just due to the amount of weapons & armor surrounding them, rather than any actual scientific gender analysis of the organic remains), were recently discovered to, in reality, actually be female.

Travis9x

Tom, you did such a magnificent job with this sketch, I am beyond ecstatic with how it turned out. When I made the suggestion, I was hoping you would pay particular attention to the breed's distinctive facial markings, and you did! Bravo!! 😻 I really hope it gets voted to be colored later. And maybe we'll be graced by a trademark @DarthKeidran Story Comment™? 😉

Travis9x

My Norwegian Fluffmonster (the inspiration for this sketch idea) likes to play with the water in his drinking bowl. Always makes a mess all over the kitchen floor. 😹

Nikolai Volkov

Considering the size of forest cats, I kind of want to see one standing next to a normal cat type.

DarthKeidran

Me: In exchange for my life and freedom, I volunteer my loot box as tribute. Viking Cat: *growls* Me: Wait! Instead of my loot box, here’s everything I own. Viking Cat: *licks me* Me: Please don’t kill me! Viking Cat :3 *runs away with all my riches* Me: :-(

Beastking1945

It would be awesome if you did a crossover artwork of Twokinds and another webcomic, Desert Fox

Glenn Sellers

Ooh. Kzin. I haven't heard that species mentioned in a long time. Oops. I mean the Kzinti.

SCD

Hill: All Viking cats were not stupid brutes. They had moments of brilliance. They were such great shipbuilders and sailors that Leif Eriksson and his crew landed in America first. Some say, traveling as far south as New York harbor. Here's where the true brilliance comes in, they took a look, turned around and went home. (Oz reference)

Markvincible

Those are some badass looking cats!

Supreme Leader Porg

Funny as I get this after just playing CK2 as Germany and getting rushed by 20k army of Swedes and Norwegians while I am invading Italy.

let's just say it did not go well for me at all

Q

Absolutely badass! Great work with this piece!

Shockblaster

This is why the Templar will lose.

metalman20

words cannot describe the amount of badassness in this one picture

Torbjörn Larsson

I don't know about relabeling ancient burials, but I remember is at that the recent "Viking burial female", an earlier find that was relabeled, is an open question (skeleton identification, I think). And it could even be Slavic at about a coin toss likelihood. See my comment above, the pop genome was about half Slavic at the time I think (but also minor pops flowing through the area).

Torbjörn Larsson

@Sons of Lorgar: Again, don't remember a female responsibility. That I seem to remember is that responsibility was transferred to female top ... cat ... under Viking (or other loss of male alpha).

VitAnyaNaked

Wow, the Vikings! This forest cat is definitely going to win, he is damn powerful.)))))

More breed specific Keidran! Somebody suggest Munchkins and Scottish Folds <3

Remmus

Can't help but imagine munchkin breed cat Keidran to be basically be the dwarfs of the Twokind universe, complete with broad, stocky bodies and big, braided beards.

Sons of Lorgar

Well, I guess my sources may be outdated, after all, it's not the historical period I'm most interested in despite beeing Swedish.

Sons of Lorgar

Also Viking cat: buries all your riches, sits and plays with box of loot box...

GoldNightCat

I will now have to suggest that you young mortal.

Adamas

Huh Interesting. Always good to learn something.

Adamas

"We sail in search of the legendary "'Nip"!

Supreme Leader Porg

Unfortunately, based on the maps anyways, it seems the wolves have already wiped out these northern cats. Well maybe not just the wolves, Depending in where it was, humans may have took some as well. Just depends on where the borders of the former snow leopard and northern cats would have been. Now it's just about half and half between humans and wolves

DarthKeidran

Best case scenario when it comes to enslavement, they use you as a living dakimakura like a common house cat, worst case scenario, you be a common slave and receive no cuddles.

DarthKeidran

I know it wasn’t much, but hopefully my comment below was enough for you. I’m positive it will be colored. I’ll do a much better one there.

DarthKeidran

It’s true, also, the crazies who can’t drive in snow but think they can are also coming. The benefit for me, the aforementioned group will all be on the side of the road in the first 30 minutes of snowfall, and, I actually can drive in snow.

Sons of Lorgar

Nah, the northern cats has just retreated to rebuild, develop new technologies, tactics, strategies and form alliances in preparation of a future reclamation offensive. As they don't have magic abilities, they have turned to invention and industrialization instead. Just like the small science focused playstyle in Civ2 where every other civ expend their resources on expanding and fighting skirmishes against eachother while you hyperfocus on science and initiate the industrial revolution in 500BC, keeping it secret until 60BC when your forces cross the Alps in three days with modern tanks supported by MLRS artillery, strategic bombers, mechanized infantry and arrives to march victorious without opposition into Rome as all the defenders have already died trying to break the paradropped siege forces...

Fox-o guy

Colored as hell! Gimme that backround!

Jordan Dean Ezekude

Sufferin' sucotash! I dare say this Keidran tribe may rival that of the Tigers!
