I'm going to be controversial and comment that while Eric is a tool in many ways compared to Kathrin including how he's treating Erilas here, him not reciprocating Kathrin's feelings does *not* make him a tool in my opinion since it has been shown in the comic a number of times (especially by now) that Eric does deeply care about her and respects her opinions and input even if he wouldn't need to. But he's just not romantically interested in her even though she is into him - so in this context Kathrin is pretty much a stalker who doesn't want him to get involved with someone else regardless of how he feels (not that Erilas would ever do it). For the same reason I've always felt that in the story arc where Kathrin decides to get revenge on him for rebuffing her because he did genuinely want to do something extremely generous for her but didn't understand what she wanted, she is largely the bad person towards him in turn during that story arc, although I do excuse her since she is still young and had extremely strong feelings for him. But this is why Kathrin and Eric are my favourite "coupling" of the story, since their relationship is complex and eerily realistic given who they are and why they are together in the first place.
