Nat: "Oh hey, Keith. What're you doing down there, loser?" Keith: *Groans* "Oh, you know. Not used to sleeping on real beds, recently... or with other people. Too soft and warm. ...Plus, you tossed me down here about midway through the night." Nat: "Ha! Sounds about right. How much sleep did you wind up getting?" Keith: "...Two and a half hours." Nat: "Oof. Sorry, bud. Well, I'm up now. So if you like you can crawl up here and take a shift on the bed." Keith: "Eh, I'm good. Also, after that throw, I... don't know if I can move." Nat: "Hmm... You know, Now that I think of it, this seems kinda familiar. In fact, I think I woke up and found you in this exact position that first night we spent in the same room at that tavern in Wreathwood." Keith: "Yeah, being on the floor sounds familiar. Though I can't quite remember what happened that morning." Nat: "Oh, it went a little something like this..." *Crawls onto floor and snuggles up behind him.* Keith: "Wait, it's coming back to me. Though I remember you being in front that day." Nat: "Technically, I was on top. We can do that if you prefer." Keith: "No! It's fine! This is... fine." Nat, chuckling: "Good. Now get some sleep, you dork."

I'm going to modify my other comment, that there are more complicated traits than having developmental-environmental biological sex and gender, because there are details that makes it not always straightforward. Biological sex is based on a constrained bimodal distribution, but it only works out as easy identifiable in an estimated 99 % of cases. There are edge cases on the constraint, simplest chromosomal duplications, so you can have all XXY (say). But you can also have mixes. Especially since in humans (other mammals may do this differently, IIRC) an X is randomly inactivated during development in females to give the correct amount of gene product - "all" girls are X mosaic. (or maybe all, I don't think failures in deactivation is survivable though oddly XXY is - Klinefelter syndrome). So all sorts of complications. And that is before we get to gender expression...

Well, biology has biological sex but also other traits like gender. And ~1 % of humans can't easily be placed against the bimodal sex distribution, another 1 % aren't interested. There isn't any contradiction in any of that. So why would we care how people label themselves and why would our personal opinion trump theirs on their own "turf" [sic!]?
