You ever notice how sometimes Ms. Rose is sorta... spooky?" Rose: *Appears right behind them.* "...She's also good at hearing." Maddie and Karen: "AH!"

more like a "perfect" guard dog he will attempt to kill anything that they have previously been told to kill (presumably any intruder previously or maybe just anyone that wasn't trace and rose) and will protect or help anyone that he has been told is a friend

I think it’s exactly the inverse; EvilTrace made Stoney to guard the entrance to the ‘Rose Garden’, and the others rampaging in the beach room were created by Rose.
