Some of the major civilizations, their biological differences, and what makes them each unique, suggested by TrueWolves!

I debated whether to include the cat clans, since they're technically just a variant of feline keidran, but I thought it'd be fun to include such a short off-shoot in the lineup.

Please forgive any typos or awkward phrasing, it was a lot of text!

I love that Raine is the one who explains all of this. And I really love all the details and information that has been put into this sketch, it's very useful to understand all the Races. Great work Tom.

Fennex

I adore the cat clans. Reminds me of the Warriors series. I hope we get to see them in the comic or a spinoff at some point

jo holloway

If there’s anything that approaches in Katherine on my list of things I enjoy in these sketches, it’s lore and data about the world and characters.

ChampionOfBagels

Oh baby, this is the kind of stuff I yearn for. Beautiful lore dump.

Glassan

Wow, that is quite the lore dump. Awesome!

Pandora meet box. I dont know if Tom quite understands what he has unleashed with this. He has answered some questions but created ten times more to replace them.

AstroChaos

I really couldn't have said it better...

CrRAR

That fox be quite sassy! Wow so much info, thanks Professor Raine! ^.^

K_D Lawrence

They also remind me of the Felynes from monster hunter.

Went Brown

I like the lore stuff.

VGR

Male human is eyeing her, too. “What? I couldn’t possibly date a wolf… or could I?”

Jo demon

It’s cause female Baistins are cute

Sleepyboi

If there is one thing I will never get tired of seeing about Twokinds, it's the lore of the world. I realize there are things Tom can't get into in the prime comic so a lot of it has to come from these sketches but it is really just super cool seeing all the stuff. Thank you to "TrueWolves" for suggesting this!

Cliff Warden

This is uniquely helpful for me. I've tried to get some of my friends into TK and have been building a dnd one shot stealthily set in the TK universe to give them a taste of it to see if they like it. I've also really enjoyed trying to rework the magic system to work without breaking the balance of the game.

Roughlandin

*Sneakily passes note that reads "Professor Raine is cute." Excellent lore dump, Tom! I guess this makes Northern Basitins officially canon now? (Hooray for Rabbit and Huntress!) Love the little touches of the different study participants checking each other out. Suppose we'll have to sign up for Interspecies Relations 221 to see how those vignettes turn out. Hope Professor Raine teaches that one, too! XD Congrats, TrueWolves!

Cliff Warden

I have a feeling Professor Rose is more qualified in that field

hippiewerewolf

One step closer to a table top rpg book!

Blackjack

Nice! Any chance on sending some info on this? My dnd crew know of TK because of me and Ide love to do a one-shot/short game in that world.

Blackjack

Tom dragon! Daylighting as a human pizza guy.

Cliff Warden

I'll have to take some time to compile everything and proofread it. Haven't actually been able to play test anything yet though. Since your group has knowledge of the setting I'll just pack the mechanics

Jasper

The tiny cats, yes

silver dragonia

i do wonder what basitins would think of me who could potentially use spiritual magic which is close to infinite which is also connected to my own body. I bet they would ask me to make loads of mana crystals for them, which i'd be happy todo, I just need a grey-ish blue crystal and quarts to fuse together before i can make mana quarts crystal. My armour is made with different fused gems and crystals and diamonds fused specifically with quarts to either help me with magic elemental damage or help me protect against it passively. (Part of my work in progress magic type, Basicly a soul is the source of magic which is connected to the soul cairn and the better connect a living soul has to it the more magic and advanced can be used, but it is severely limited if the body of the magic user isn't physically fit to use more advanced magic, which could kill the user if not put them in a coma for the rest of their life then if not helped the coma is short term and kills them)

KaiserDunk

Interesting description of the various races.

Ordithus

More Professor Raine! That's a lot of lore in one pic. Nice!

Khodi_K

*cough* Foxes aren't Canines *cough* also I should stop they are fantasy anthro animals after all

Khodi_K

Oh sure, they are Caninae, but then split before canine, But I'm, ya know. Splitting hairs :)

Roughlandin

If we're splitting hairs, the word "canine" refers to the subfamily Caninae, not just genus Canis. Foxes aren't in Canis like dogs or wolves, but they are Canines.

CrRAR

*somewhere Maren’s haircare senses are tingling awful fierce*

BluePhantom90

Would wonder about the Bastin like Magpie. Is she a Western or Northern Bastin? Or is she an Eastern that was exiled? SO many questions!

ProudLoneWolf

Wolves and tigers: "Hi, yep, we're naked and we're hot."

Khodi_K

Fair enough :)

Cliff Warden

My guess is either a descendant of an eastern exile or a westerner with a particularly strong sense of wanderlust (I'm assuming western personally because of her body paint habits)

Cliff Warden

That was done on a smart phone so apologies for any janky formatting

Leif

Basitins would be hard to balance.

Timo2141

Wolves female and Human male... there is some love in the air

Feyascia

"Tigers: Often stockier and heavier than wolves [with "two" notable exceptions]."

Cliff Warden

I was actually thinking of giving them magic resistance and/or a higher racial stat bonus in exchange for the lack of magic access.

Thisguy

Spot the prudes! (Humans and Basitins).

Thisguy

Unable to use magic perhaps, but Pixie Panic (side comic) indicates that Basitins are quite resistant to magic. And we know they’re resistant to poison. The magic system TK uses alone makes the setting difficult at best to adapt to any existing TTRPG rule set. Basitins have resistance to magic, and being unable to use it, would lock them out of a lot of classic classes, and make them OP against magic users using more traditional rules. A TK RPG would need its own set of rules to accommodate.

Thisguy

I assume western because of the body paint.

Majyxs

Oh, but the human female has neglected to cover her ankles! Scandalous ~<3

Noah Muir

Seeing that male cat look like that, it’s interest In pranking her. It’s a cat, don’t fool yourself

RivCA

Reflects cats in general. All kitties in the real world need to eat meats and meat products or they die. I'm of the stance, however, that sentience comes from being able to maximize your resources, so catlike races in my own TTRPGs can utilize plant-based carbs. Nowhere near the same extent as humans, but they can do it.
