Thanksgiving is an annual celebration harking back to when the Pilgrims survived their first winter in North America (specifically Plymouth, Massachusetts). It didn't become an official holiday in the USA until the 1860s under Abraham Lincoln; however, it didn't have an official day of celebration until the 1930s when Franklin Roosevelt officially made it the 4th Thursday in November.

I agree! Mostly because stores start Christmas stuff around the time kids go back to school here. Of course back to school stuff in stores starts shortly after the start of spring brake.
