That's got to be Clovis fallen on hard times, there.

Spillthefire6

Prince of thieves there made some bad decisions on Crypto markets

As someone who has been wanting to build a new PC for a while now: get rekt.

Niskara

I love the way that everything in the picture is somewhat gloomy except the soup, which give it a very warm, happy appearance

Cliff Warden

Is that keidran script up on the sign?

Saberbeam

As another quite excellent webcomic quoted for it's title strip "Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth." Seeing Laura's lack of imposition and kind, gentle heart is wonderful :) Plus it's always fun to watch the Modern TK cast in action!

CrRAR

...and the person next in line is 3 Cat Clan cats in a trenchcoat. :p

Trenton Bushnell

Nice to see that outside of being a streamer and taking out her wildest fantasies on Keith, Laura's a kind soul.

silver dragonia

i'd be happy to cook in the kitchen to help those in need

... I'm just hoping we don't have a Edith Keeler situation. It IS Laura, after all 😔

silver dragonia

i may regret asking but what is edith keeler situation?

AstroChaos

It's a reference to an old Star Trek episode called the City on the Edge of Forever. Basically, they discover a portal that lets you travel in time. Doc McCoy ends up going though it and suddenly the whole Federation goes poof, Enterprise and all, because he changed something in the past. Spock and Kirk are the only ones left, they follow him, and kind themselves in 1930's New York. Kirk meets and falls in love with a soup kitchen working pacifist named Edith Keeler. Unfortunately, it turns out that the change McCoy made was to save her from getting run over by a truck. Because she didn't die then, she started a big pacifist movement that kept the US from joining WW2, which leads to Nazi Germany winning, becoming a nuclear power, and ending the world. So Kirk is stuck having to stop McCoy from saving her and has to watch the girl he's fallen for get run over and die in front of him. It's a pretty damn brutal episode, especially for something that I'd imagine was marketed for families back in the 60's. Which is likely why it's probably been 20 years since I saw that episode but I somehow remember it well enough to give you a recap. Anyways, canonically dead Laura working a soup kitchen immediately made my mind jump to Edith Keeler.

silver dragonia

i do believe since you can remember it so vividly is it made a big impact in you in some way or another for you to remember the details and how and why it happened and what were happening to have said timeline scrambled to a new different timeline

AstroChaos

Possibly... I think mostly that it was because it was so very different than any other episodes and even as a kid I thought alternative history was just cool. A world where the US didn't join in the war in time because it was so politically unpopular isn't really a stretch either. If they addressed how the Japanese bombing Pearl Harbor factored in I don't remember it. Could be they didn't.

Glenn Sellers

Since you brought it up, it does the same thing for me, too. Also, if you recall, in one scene, Edith stands in front of the soup kitchen people and expounds about a possible future, including traveling through space.

Glenn Sellers

Actually, Pearl Harbor wasn't mentioned even in passing.

Ordithus

This is very heartwarming! It's nice to see a more in character moment for Laura.

eddi_TBH

Laura will serve them three cat-sized bowls.

RivCA

Either that, or the script basitin use. I always imagined keidran would use the script of whatever land they're in.

RivCA

Not surprising; the "date which will live in infamy" was December 7, 1941. If Kirk, Bones and Spock went to the 1930's, the inciting event may not have even happened. The Japanese spies would have relayed this newfound pacifism to the Imperial Navy, and the whole incident may well have never happened, much to the warmonger's chagrin.

Katfeathers

Actually I'd rather the myth of anyone deserving to be in that situation not be continued. Better someone like Clovis end up in the proper jail for their misdeeds.

RumailXXIII

What? I just said that literally looks like him.

Trollman906

I actually help out at a place like this when I was in scouts. It wasn’t a soup kitchen, but they gave out food and stuff to the those that were able to show up.
