What if during Keith's banishment he was intercepted by a different vixen as he drifted towards fox territory? Suggested by Dan Vaelling!

Her face shows such pride...no doubt for corrupting a proud law abideing Bastitin man into a scurvey seadog who would share a glass of rum with you and then cut you open with a cutlass if you looked at him funny. How proud she must be of her first mate...perhaps even in this world Keith found himself with a Vixen lover as well?

Buckle up, folks, I got a massive head canon for this. So, the question was asked, what if Keith was intercepted by a different vixen en route to the fox territory? Clearly, he would be leading a slightly different life. Western Basitins value personal freedom, as established by Tom in the many sketches he's done over the years. Pirates in our own world think of themselves as the ultimate expression of personal freedom, which has many different connotations, but which Keith could very easily take to. One thing that he would definitely have in spades would be martial prowess. In order to maintain their freedoms, the pirates would need to be taught actual martial skill. Keith is still an honorable man, despite having lost his honor in his homeland. As such, First Mate may be a bit presumptuous, but Quartermaster would be far more likely. The quartermaster is a very well-respected position on board a ship, as they are in charge of various disbursements and of personnel. At least, that's an army QM. Keith could very easily do this, as well as the shipboard role given Basitin propensity to management. A shipboard QM would be responsible for controlling the ship's wayfinding and charts, and would only answer to the captain when a change in course might be ordered. His Eastern blood would allow for him to settle into a solid groove taking the Old Lady's orders (Old Man is another term to refer to the captain, but this is Capt. Jenny) and take zero bull from anyone else. Especially the former High Templar and his tigress locked inside the brig. Honor demands he be successful in that mission, and hell will be paid if the Basitin leadership turn him down on his honor.

Keith certainly can swing a cutlass...but Capt Jenny really appreciates him for his accounting skills (hauled booty needs to be properly invested in ship maintenance and supplies),painting skills as she can attest to...and his Bastitin nature compelling himself to keep clean and bath often. All traits most pirate men lack.

When I saw Tom draw a scruffy looking basitin on stream, i suddenly got very excited. This turned out exactly how I imagined it, down to the pose and outfit, the pirate look really suits Keith. Jenny's looking great as well (as always), I love the way they look at each other, maybe the real treasure is the friends they made along the way. Nah, the real treasure is definitely the copious amount of gold, but the friends are a neat bonus, at least. And despite the AU, Keith's smile is still precious.

Pirates knew the value of someone to manage the business of keeping the ship supplied, the crew fed and payouts for injury and death dealt with fast and honest. As well as investing their shares of loot, if desired toward their retirement. They were actually a pretty smart bunch. Most of that usually fell in the captain's lap, but Jenny lucked out. And Kieth fell into her lap here instead.

@Devin: I chose to ignore the other sketch entries, as the more-or-less official stance on sketches is "not canon." Eric wouldn't have been captured by pirates, unless the value of his ransom to other powers would be worth the cost. Kathrin would wind up with the short end of the stick, and while I reconsider it, so might Flora. Keeping Trace under lock and key to turn in for the Basitin bounty would be worth it, but not the prisoner's squeeze. Why do I reconsider this point? Because, ironically, of the video that Cliff Warden linked. Pirates are a private corporation on the High Seas. If certain endeavors aren't profitable, they would be reconsidered for other pursuits. As most pirates in the real world were (and still are) very much rough-and-tumble men, a payment of "women" could often make for good compensation. Is this disgusting? Yes, it most certainly is, but it is also the cold reality of greed and desire being the chief leading points of decision making. It's not meant to glamorize pirate life, but to make it clear what pirates are known to do. Funnily enough, on that note: Many pirates were gay, bisexual, or otherwise "non-standard" when it came to tastes in women. They went the way of piracy as such would give them the freedom to do as they pleased. When you have acts like the "Acte for the punishment of the vice of Buggerie" issued in 1533, such opinions would be very much out of fashion, especially if you were supposed to be a good Christian boy living under the flag of His Majesty's Royal Empire.
