Sounds delicious! I would have had some cowboy calico bean leftovers but I ended up meeting a friend and we went to a buffet of all places. But as my therapist often encourages me, have some food that glitters every now and then!

That's just the name of the dish and I'm from the Northeast. However, amongst the things I consider myself a late bloomer over, southern cuisine is one of them

I am in the deep south and despise quite a lot of southern cuisine. It's either food that is spicy in lieu of being good so it's nasty or it has beans which are just awful. Not to mention that the meats are so damn soupy. It's like Alton Brown said "If you want good Buffalo Wings don't go to fucking Buffalo."

That's fascinating because I don't enjoy spicy foods all that much. I prefer if some "kick" adds to the flavor rather than making me cry with every bite. I like some diversity and I'm of the opinion everything doesn't have to be simply BBQ or spicy and I'm sure depending on the area or whoever you meet, true cooks know how to put their spin on things there rather than just follow one food stereotype or the other applied to their particular cuisine.
