Hey folks, so it's a bummer but someone seems to have reported my AO3 again for having a Patreon account (and for the third time), resulting in them suspending my account for a month. As a result, there won't be any new post on AO3, and even after that, I'm considering whether to continue over there because of the recurring theme that's kinda set in with that website.

It's a shame, really, but there's nothing I can do about it. I'll keep posting on Ffn, QQ, H/F, and Webnovel though, and obviously here, but I'd really appreciate some suggestions on other places I could post my works on, because losing AO3 is genuinely massive.

I guess that's all. Thanks for all your support and I hope you keep enjoying my work.

What on earth are you being reported for? Your fics are positively tame compared to a lot of stuff I’ve seen.

Vedros

It's basically about having a Patreon. It goes on well for a few months and then the same shit repeats. At this point I just can't be arsed about it.

It's crazy. I've seen stories in ao3 that never get flagged with rape and all kinds of terrible stuff and it's not hinted at. Literally graphic scenes but never flagged. I never understand why certain ones get punished

Diablo2579

Someone seems to have it out for you and obviously they're an asshole

concor

to be honest ive noticed recently alot of authors being targetted on AO3 and FF for some really stupid and silly reasons. Weirdly enough its not the extreme stuff its normally the rather tame and stories that lack certain themes. Another big thing ive started to notices is the number of stories straight up being stolen and reuploaded under a different name with a slightly different title. even reporting it to the sites did nothing and when i msg the author even he had no luck it getting it sorted, its still being posted religiously as he releases new chapters. Add in those same type of people are also now reselling those same stories. its getting pretty bad on some sites.

Wait it's all over having a patreon? I mean there are plenty who have patreons and post there. I mean honestly I would maybe not have it in your ch and just in your profile as a link just to be low key about it or something idk that seems dumb.

Arleas

Scribblehub and RoyalRoad both allow patreons so you could add those to your portfolio altough both are bigger in the original work community both also allow fanfiction. I honestly didn't even know that Ao3 doesn't allow you to have a patreon tons of people have their patreon linked there always knew that FF was very strict about it but ao3 surprised me right now.

Vedros

I'll check them out for sure. Thanks!

Ofunu

What exactly did they report you for? I mean, there are stories and artwork about all kind of very repulsive things in AO3 and they are allowed. What would prompt them to suspend anyone?

yan boul

or he makes an intermediary I know that some make his vow sends to another site or that you click his head to patreon

If I had to guess, it's for a content violation: II. C. AO3 does not allow commercial promotion I.E. Kofi/Pateron, etc. They are being cautious since fanworks are a part of fair use, and fair use does not allow financial gain. With how fragile things are, AO3 is very cautious, so they can focus their legal team on helping people who are actually following fair use and companies are targeting.

Ryan Chase

I've heard you can link to a linktree or a X account and be fine, but I am not a representative or otherwise associated with AO3.

Vedros

That’s what I was doing initially, and currently had tumblr. It’s that if someone reports you, there’s nothing you can do about it. They will flag your works and your account.

Just having a patreon shouldn’t be enough. You aren’t supposed to link to it directly or mention anywhere on the site that you have one. You basically have to avoid any mention of making or requesting money, at least according to the TOS FAQ. Possible they have overzealous people reporting though.

Vedros

There’s no mention of the website anywhere. It’s about reporting. A mere reference somewhere would be considered infringement if it’s been reported.

Ryan Chase

AO3 does not allow commercial promotion I.E. Kofi/Pateron, etc. They don't censor the works allowed for the story content. They were created *because* of overly strict content censorship. I.E. (Slash, Explicit works)

Ben knight

Did you even mention patreon in your posts though? I don't remember seeing it

Vedros

Never. But even referencing it counts as a violation if reported. There is no lack of authors promoting their accounts by referencing them but as long as they are not reported, it goes well. Reporting will cause an issue.

Daeron Targaryen

Don’t mention it at all, and just promote it on Twitter.

AJ Martin

I had just found your stuff on it and was 5 chapters in when it happened last night... Its the reason I found you here...

Vedros

Yeah, that’s when it happened.

AJ Martin

Well even with that F up you got another sub for it.. lol

Vedros

Ha! Thanks for the support, mate. Appreciate it.

TheWateringWizard

Probably some cunt has it out for you which is really annoying because Ao3 is the best website for reading fanfics. The interface is great and all the tags let you know what you’re getting into

Patrick Fisher

What are they saying about your account because I have seen other authors post stories and they don’t get reported

cfp33pfc

Literotica? FicWad is still alive...

Vedros

Will check them out. Thank you.

Easiest way to get around things is having a discord server community and link the patreon there

Rival

I know I'm late to this conversation, but the discord server with chapters posted as a google doc seems to be the best option from what I have experienced as a customer. You can avoid any lost chapters and/or censorship on Patreon's end. Just use them as the money collection service. You could also potentially use Kofi or subscribestar as well, though, you'd probably see more financial gain through patreon. My only complaint with P-ron is that unless you have stories in a collection, it is a pain to go back and re-read later on, which is where I think QQ shines, especially their ease of image posting and the continuous page down scrolling. As for Ao3, maybe I'm not a guru at it, but I find their tag system too cumbersome to navigate, so I have only found interesting stories by luck for the most part.

Was just going back to a fic and saw your ao3 was empty, damn it. Wish I knew where I was with the fics I was reading, im tired of people reporting for people for this bs
