Hi folks,

This is a message direct to our Patreon supporters. Today, we have launched a new way to support Rusty Quill: members.rustyquill.com.

First, we want to assure you that our Patreon is not going anywhere and will continue to run alongside this new platform. Patreon, and our community here, has been so important to us over the years, and we are so grateful to every one of you for your generosity and enthusiasm for our shows. We have no plans to phase out Patreon and are committed to continue to share ad-free episodes, bonus content and news updates here as normal.

So, why are we launching members.rustyquill.com? Having an additional platform gives folks a choice when they want to support us.

The new Membership Portal features all bonus content and ad-free episodes that are available on Patreon and, ongoing, both Patreon and members.rustyquill.com will be updated to receive the same content at the same time. On the new platform, we have only excluded news posts that are no longer relevant, e.g. livestream links, and newsletter content from before January 2024. These will remain available on Patreon; we will not be removing any content from Patreon.

Furthermore, there are some features on Patreon, such as Drops, that are only available on Patreon – we will continue to offer these here for our most exciting episode releases. This aside, there will be no exclusive bonuses or benefits to either platform, so there is no need for you subscribe to both.

We have kept the tier prices the same across both platforms, though if you are based outside of the UK and the US, you may notice small variations due to how each platform calculates exchange rates.

Having more than one membership platform is becoming a new norm for popular podcast producers and networks, and the additional choice only seems to benefit fans.

Thank you, again, for your support. We hope that this update answers any questions you may have about members.rustyquill.com and the future of our Patreon, however if you have any questions you can send us a DM on Patreon or email us at mail@rustyquill.com.

I do like when I'm provided choices and happy when content creators are able to have them.

Chrispy

I, too, like choices, particularly when they're alternatives to quasi-monopolies in a given space! Presumably, this new option would mean slightly more of my money reaching its intended recipient, ie Rusty Quill? Edit: This was based on the (admittedly, somewhat naïve) mistaken assumption that this was basically their own, proprietary service. Still, two options are better than one!

Grace 'Gengar' Soria

Thanks for being so clear about any possible differences between platforms. I like options too!

Chrispy

Yeah, it's good they made that clear - I just noticed that, as a Eurozoner, the new "Supporting Cast" option is actually quite a bit more pricey than the equivalent Patreon one. Example: Patreon Noble tier: $10/month. Noble tier via Supporting Cast: 9.99€/month – which is currently $11.71, getting close to $12/month. I really hope that just means more money for Rusty Quill, rather than it lining somebody else's pockets

Which platform gets more money into the hands of RQ? Is there a difference?

Armitage

thank god, the Patreon app is a crime against humanity

Chrispy

I naïvely assumed that it might just be a simple way to get more of the money to where we want it to be, so I asked. This is from Hattie, RQ's marketing manager: "It is about the same on both platforms."

Larfein

I'm completely new to RQ's patreon - could anyone please explain to me what "Drops" are?

Valerie Kaplan

The episode gets streamed at a set time so people can listen together and react in chat in realtime.
