Hi folks,

Wishing you the very best for the coming week from everyone at Rusty Towers!

Here at RQ we are now fully back into the swing of things after our holiday break. The events team has been busy making plans on how we will be celebrating 10 years of The Magnus Archives throughout 2026 and in production recordings have begun on some of the winning Rusty Fears 7 stories.

At Rusty Towers, we always use the beginning of the year as an opportunity to reflect and reassess, and on the marketing side we’ve been looking back on 2025 and ahead to 2026 and beyond!

To hear more about the marketing side of the business, and to introduce you to more of the team here at RQ, today we’re welcoming Hattie Quinlan, Rusty Quill’s Marketing Manager, to find out more about what a typical day is like at Rusty Towers!

A Day in the Life of Hattie Quinlan, Marketing Manager.

My day usually starts with a cup of coffee and checking Rusty Quill official social media channels, the RQ Mail inbox and our paid member platforms. On Mondays, I also take some time to go through my to do list. I use my own variant on the Eisenhower Matrix (where tasks are listed in a grid depending on their urgency and importance) to group tasks into categories depending on their urgency and how long they might take – I’ve found having a go to list of “easy wins” is really useful for my productivity!

As it’s a Monday, my next priority is writing the newsletter. This is often something of a team effort, as I’ll speak to various people around RQ getting the latest updates from their departments, such as news from the Network, latest merchandise launches and production updates. I always save finalising the newsletter for Monday itself, to ensure any “hot-off-the-press” updates can be included. If there are new episodes releasing, I’ll also listen to these so I can write a teaser – these often help me name the newsletter as well, something that is becoming increasingly tricky now that I’ve written over 200!

I’m not a morning person, so I typically schedule the majority of meetings for the afternoon. These might be team catch-ups, calls about new or ongoing projects, or calls with our merchandise partners. These are some of the highlights of the job for me – working with creative, passionate small businesses to make products for Rusty Quill fans is incredibly rewarding. I’m lucky to be at almost every stage of the process, from making first contact and pitching a project all the way through to planning the marketing and social media around the announcement.

While more recently my job has been less than typical – including judging a podcast award, designing a programme, working on the merchandise stall at The Hilltop, giving a presentation to UK businesses about podcasting, or attending networking events in London with other creators and podcasters – even a “normal” day at Rusty Quill is incredibly varied. Any day you might find me updating the website, analysing statistics, researching the changing landscape of social media, writing announcements, designing social media graphics, working with shows on the RQ Network, writing press releases, entering podcast awards and much more besides. Working in Marketing also means I get to meet and collaborate with team members from all other departments regularly, so my week is full of catch-up calls and quick chats so I’m up to date with everything going on. This is what I love most about working at Rusty Quill: every day is totally different and there’s always something exciting just around the corner.

Have a good week all!

Ooh, so is it Hattie we have to thank for the great ideas of collaborations with merch creators like Knock Thrice or Greer Stothers? :3

Thank you Hattie for all your hard work!! I also work in Marketing so all of this feels very familiar but you’re juggling so much more than I do on any given day. RQ sounds like a great place to work and it’s awesome to meet the folks behind the scenes 🙌
