Hi folks,

Wishing you the very best for the coming week from everyone at Rusty Towers!

Firstly, thank you for all of the excitement you shared last week, after we gave you sneak preview of an upcoming dice set inspired by a certain popular Magnus entity… We’ll be sharing more information on this soon, but you can also bookmark this webpage on the Dice Dungeon store, where the product will appear once it’s available to pre-order!

If you weren’t able to join our recent charity livestream, and haven’t yet caught up with the VOD, we’ve now created individual videos for each of the segments to make it easier to find exactly what you want to watch!

Finally, in news from the RQ Network, Soul Operator is getting ready for their second season! We caught up with creator, Tatiana, in an exclusive interview to find out more about the show and what you can expect from season 2!

Tell us who you are and a bit about Soul Operator?

My name is Tatiana Gefter, and I am the writer, producer, and lead voice actor in the Solo TTRPG Actual Play and Audio Drama Soul Operator. The core premise of the show is to highlight the expansive genre of solo play in a format that I already loved. Each season I play a different game and then adapt said gameplay into an Audio Drama, making it accessible for audio fiction listeners who may not be familiar with Actual Play. The goal was, and continues to be, to show the audience what is possible in using something like a TTRPG as a tool for storytelling. To inspire people to pick up such games for themselves and stretch those creative muscles and realize just how far they can push that creativity. Given that I am a huge fan of horror, and how well audio lends itself to the genre, having the show written through that lens was natural. While the seasons may vary in the gratuity of the horror, things are never as they seem.

What can fans look forward to in season 2?

As mentioned above, each season will be different from the previous by virtue of the games being played. This season has had me writing in a setting that wasn't overly familiar with, certainly in a style that wasn't completely in my comfort zone. That being said, it has been a lot of fun to try something new and if I say so myself, it is some of the best writing I have done for the show. The main cast is much smaller this season so I have more opportunities to linger with them and let both myself and the audience get to know them better.

What will be different in season 2?

The mechanics of "Outliers" are much different from 'Welcome to the Habitrails", which has manifested in the lengths of episodes being wildly different from one another. With season one, I definitely had a sweetspot when it came to the length I was comfortable with writing. This season I have had to adapt and learn how to tell a cohesive narrative in both shorter and longer episodes. Rather than monologues carrying the bulk of the exposition, this season will emphasize following the characters from moment to moment and listening in on dialogue as it happens. Tonally, this will be different from Season One, and my hope is that each season can stand on its own with those differences in mind.

Soul Operator is currently casting for roles in season 2 – if you or someone you know is interested in auditioning, you can find all of the information at www.souloperatorpod.com/opportunities .

You can listen to the first season of Soul Operator now, wherever you find podcasts, on the Rusty Quill website, or on the Soul Operator website. If you enjoy the show, please consider leaving a rating or a review, as this is a great way to support your favourite creators!

Have a good week all!
