omg I was just looking at merch (thinking I was beyond spoilers at this point) & saw the "You are my reason" print! I knew it was Martin & Jon but I did not expect how SASSY the line would be delivered 😂

Kitkat

Oooh this was super interesting! I love info dumps on characters!

james evelyn

Archivist: "Yes, Martin, you are my reason" Martin & Me: "COOL"

meowcury

how we feeling lads

kogla

Of course you are his reason Martin! .. so cute ! Loooove all that backstory, I was wondering about previous assistants for so long !

romi רוֹמִי

I've always wondered about Gertrude's other assistants, so this is super interesting.

Francesca Forrest

*brilliant absolutely brilliant!!* love that sweet sweet lore dump

LainyJP

This was really good, and quite sad. This season has been very good at balancing these statements with humor that isn't at all "jokey" or forced. Very interesting to learn more about the past assistants. I really feel like each episode is better than the last

Rowan MacBean

I feel like now I really get how Jon felt after ‘eating’ statements because that was an absolutely delicious infodump.

E C Marlowe

This is so sad. There's one good thing for them in this nightmare world: their love for and trust in one another. And it's being chipped away, little by little. Martin's domain is the Lonely, of course, and I'm not sure Jon will be able to help him escape it when they face it again. *sniffles*

YamiKakyuu

This one was hard to listen to. God the Web...

Arcturus

With every day, I hate the web more and more 😂

Lyssi

[laughs nervously] what the fuck?

EmZeez

Wait - wasn't Sarah Carpenter one of the victims of the Angler Fish? EDIT: Nope. Thanks Mathias!

sAZAndorable

WAH! This brought up so many loose ends and questions I still had but in such unexpected ways! So much Institute lore, so much tension, so many more questions... Going to be relistening to this one a lot, I adore it!

Gilligan Mungus

I’m having horrible suspicions of foreshadowing. Martin is the only thing keeping John from losing his mind and going full-time Full Metal Archivist™️. Does Annabelle and/or Jolias cause something horrid happen to Martin which in turn makes John lose it and take Jonah’s place atop the eye encrusted tower?

Linnéa Sandberg

Holy Ominous Foreshadowing Batman. Martin's ties to the Web get more and more deeply concerning with every episode. And WHAT KIND OF QUESTION was that last one??! D: Halp.

Miria

Okay wow. Huge fan of the Gertrude lore, even more fascinated by the web than before, super worried about Martin... Wow!!!

K. C. Millheiser

Martin asking specifically about the others... Not him as well because love, or because web?

olliegarden

love the backstory on gertrude and giving her some big weaknesses, i am in the same state as martin right now (can't pull away even though i know this is going to tragedy town)!

Zorya Dolgushkin

Backstory, backstory, I love backstory!! Every time Michael the assistant gets mentioned it breaks my heart all over again. I love Martin being Jon's reason and him coaxing him into saying it but yes it puts me on edge as well, what will happen if something happens to his reason? I just love all these twists and turns the story is taking us this season, so interesting!

Jasmine Boss

When Jon mentioned Emma brushing away webs I literally felt my chest tighten... It was so CHILLING hearing about her "experiments"

Gabriel Wolfe

Also feeling a sense of foreboding... Gertrude had a web aligned assistant she never paid mind to the machinations of until too late, per this statement. Martin’s sitting there with all his web-qualities that Jon doesn’t seem to notice... I have FEAR.

JA Baldwin

I saw the title of the episode and that Gertrude was involved and I was like "....are we about to get a story about her cat and the Desolation?!"

Rebecca Dupont

I don't know how every episode this season is better than the last, loved to get more history from Gertrude's time and more old archival assistants. Not to mention, I love Martin asking the hard but also sweetly normal questions, he is the levity and the love we need in this scary season!

Nicole Brinkley

I’m currently running a bookstore by myself during this pandemic—unless we count the bookstore poltergeist, which of course I do—and GOSH did I accidentally knock some books over with my visceral reaction to the line of questions at the very end of this episode. 😳 Thanks for keeping this bookseller going during the pandemic even if I’m screaming (and the poltergeist happy—I think it likes the horror?).

Isabelle

I can’t get over how amazing this episode was

Alex

Gertrude and her Web Assistant that she always overlooked and now Jon with his possible Web Assistant that he keeps not digging too deep into, I now know what Fear is.

Heather MacKenzie

I love the backstory sharing, Just to hint at the listeners how well and truly screwed we all are. And now I'm even more scared for John and Martin.

Chel

i love gertrude so much. thank u

ledgem

this was such a surprising and welcome insight into Gertrude's time as the Archivist!

Eli Lass

Gertrude is my wife. Thank u
