Ugh! More returning characters! More blue boxes! I had to do a lot more research and accounting than I'm used to, writing this chapter. I hate it.

Uhm.. Spears should be *fantastic* in dungeons. It's a stabbing weapon with reach! It will work far, far better than a sword or mace in a narrow corridor. Heck, the usual reason people own swords is that swords are great insurance against surprise combat - you can carry one all the time, so you don't get caught unarmed, which nobody wants to do with a spear, because hauling a spear around all the time is a pain in the behind.. But you go into a dungeon specifically to fight. Why wouldn't you bring a boar spear? Is this a case of someone doing misinformation at scale to stop dungeons being a training ground for soldiers? Because if the average dungeon runner is working a spear wall, they'd fit into an actual army damn well.

It's not great when you have to go through a narrow, twisting, corridor, or drop down a shaft. Or get attacked from behind when in a passage too tight to turn around in with a long weapon. Admittedly, I've sabotaged my argument by having a lot of dungeons be open-air affairs. Lets just say it depends strongly on the nature of the dungeon you're going into, and attitudes depend strongly on the dungeons the speaker has been in.

My personal attitude is shaped by boinking people with a lot of wooden and foam weapons. Pole-arms are Haxxorz. (Showing up as Hans The Peasant levy and trouncing people who thought they were good with swords *never* gets old). They're the standard melee weapon for armies for all of history for a host of damn good reasons. And mostly those reasons would apply even harder against non-human enemies.
