Now that I've bitten the bullet and decided to play the SH2 remake for myself, I can safely confirm that "Apocalyptic cringe" and your comparisons to AI are more apt descriptions for this thing than I could ever come up with...

I'm playing Crow Country right now and I wondered how people would respond if they made an Unreal Engine, over the shoulder remake of this game. I would imagine it being pretty negative since low poly horror is the point but then the arguments for doing so are very similar for doing Silent Hill 2. "It was only like that due to technical limitations" can be transferred to "well it was only a small indie game so it had to be like that". It would be a new interpretation of the original game so there's also that argument. The only major difference is it's age
