Today's video is a change of pace as we're taking a look at the indie horror game Detention and where it fits into the now vast survival horror genre. I discuss the meta elements of the story but no real details about the story itself throughout this video, so it should be spoiler light.

After Resi 3 I needed a more simple video to gig into, I hope you enjoy these observations on a more story focused slow paced horror title.

I completely forgot to comment earlier, so even though it's late, I hope you still read this comment and go "Eh, that was alright I guess" Out of all of your videos that I describe as "Video about a game but then I branch off to talk about another topic that relates to the subject of said game" this is the best one so far. The three vids of these, iirc, are this vid, the Samus Returns critique, and the Crash vid. If you remember, or choose not to since my comments on those vids were probably nonsense, I'm not the biggest fan of the other 2. The Crash video felt like a video that tried to be about HD remasters and remakes with Crash sprinkled in, really discussing the points of remakes/remasters with game preservation just being a non-option for some companies. The SR critique felt it could have been a video more on the evolution of metroidvania since the last Metroid title and how you think that Samus Returns was lagging behind. Thoughts on Detention was the best balanced video so far, putting in two major topics in it without any one side feeling under or overcooked, the title itself, and discussing about survival horror titles from their golden age by comparing them to Detention. The comparison bringing up how modern survival horror titles really like to not have much gameplay and how this title didn't try to justify its spooks in a sensible in-universe way. If you were to do another video in similar vein to this pattern that I'm not sure if you see as a pattern and that I'm just finding one where none was intended, I say look to how you made it work in this video. Also, like I said, a separate video all about how Metroidvanias evolved without the grandfather and grandmother of the genre, Castlevania (starting from Simon's Quest technically but SotN took cues from Super Metroid, blah blah) and Metroid would be really neat, if only to know a more complete perspective from your eyes.
