An Update and a Lesson in Interlaced Games (Patreon)
Content
Hey, just figured I would let people know what kind of videos to expect in the coming months. Got a few surprises in store.
----Retrospective on an Adventure Game Series----
Been working on this one the last couple of weeks and it's looking like a fun one, pretty light hearted content, nothing too serious. I'll give you a clue on what it's on, it's a duology and I've mentioned the series before. The Script has been written and all game footage has been recorded, so expect this one in the next couple of weeks.
----Funny Man Video on an Old Game Nobody Cares About----
I've also recorded the game footage needed for a shorter comedic video on an old PC game I've been trying to get again for years. I finally have it and up and working, so if you were playing edutainment games on PC in the late 90s/early 2000s, this will be a blast from the past Expect it this week.
----That PS1 Game I've Put Off Too Long----
Yes it's been too long, it's underway now. Release: TBD
----The Next Road to the Rocket Launcher----
The Next Road to the Rocket Launcher probably wont be out for a couple of months. I like to stick to the original versions but in this case I might play the Wii port of Resident Evil Remake just because it has progressive scan (480p), and the gamecube original is interlaced at only (480i). Without going into specifics, Interlaced footage looks fine on the CRT televisions the original game was made for but can look a bit choppy on the 1080p/4k LCD screens you probably watch youtube videos on.
The following image aren't totally a fair comparison since a single interlaced frame doesn't display the entire picture. Interlaced splits a complete image between 2 frames so you can only see the complete picture in motion.
Resident Evil 0 on Wii (480p)
Resident Evil on Gamecube (480i)
Here's an interesting experiment. I took 2 sequential frames and then layered them on top of each other in Photoshop. Then I set the top frames opacity to 50%. Boom it's almost a complete picture on par with progressive:
Resident Evil on Gamecube (480i, two frames spliced together)
Resident Evil Remake and 0 don't have progressive scan on gamecube but do on Wii. Resident Evil 4 on Gamecube in fact does have a progressive scan mode on Gamecube but not on the PAL version...
Resident Evil 4 on Gamecube (480i)
I'll try and get an American copy of Resident Evil 4 up and running when I get around to that episode of RttRL. Man... recording the original release of these games is gonna get a lot easier once we get to the ones released on HD consoles.
Anyway way both my gamecube scart cable and my wii component cable need replacing so that will be on the to do list first. Hopefully before the end of Summer, I'll have something to show.
----The Next Ninja Gaiden Video and God of War: Ascension----
So I'm trying to leave bigger gaps between action game videos as I try to make it less of a focus, but while still providing that kinda content to the old school viewers. Not sure if I'll do Ninja Gaiden 3 before or after God of War Ascension, we'll see. probably wont start on either till August.
Alright, thanks for being patient everyone. Great feedback on the DmC vs. Rising video, that kind of stuff is my bread and butter so if it didn't go down well, I'd feel pretty useless... heh... looks like I still got it...
Until next time, peace out.
