This episode left me wondering if my DVD collection is just trinkets. I've been lazy about getting a new remote for my player in my room. So now my dvd collection, that I often get movies I've seen before to add on to, is just a collection of trinkets if I never use them in favor of streaming services. I do show my friends some of the movies I've gotten so it qualifies with the display aspect.

I think if you buy a trinket, throw it in a drawer, and never think about it again, thats a bad purchase. But if you put it on your desk, or have a shelf for it, and looking at it now and then makes you smile, then its fine!

I've got around 70 amiibo, with the goal of getting all the smash ones, and the trinket slop debate is one I've had with myself many times. I feel like the important part, like the guys talked about, is intent. I could tell you where or who I got every single amiibo on my shelf from, all the way back to the Kirby I got on Smash 4's release day. If I see one I don't have when I'm traveling, I'll buy it. I can look at Pit and remember my high school girlfriend caring about me enough to buy me a stupid plastic figure for 50 bucks just because I thought it looked cool, or look at Mewtwo and remember that visit to my grandparents, or at Rosalina and how excited my buddy and I got when she came back in stock back in like 2017. I make enough money now that I could just order them all online, but that defeats the point for me. Feels like a natural and physical way to journal

Regarding trinkets - I get what slime is saying, but I think that trinkets (and anything you decorate a room with) serve a similar function to clothes, in that they are an extension of yourself and your personality. Having a lot of trinkets can look very bad, just like wearing a lot of clothes doesn't mean you have a good outfit, but you can definitely curate a room with a lot of trinkets/decorations that expresses something about your personality, interests, and hobbies.

I can throw things away which is something I learned to do in college moving from dorm to dorm but doing it is agony for me. I especially hate throwing/giving away clothes with the exception of ones that don’t fit. When I moved out of my senior dorm I could only packed what fit in my car and my mom convinced me to throw away my comforter and man I regret it to this day.
