With peace and love to the boys, the ludwig/slime DM episodes that i have enjoyed do really highlight how insanely good BDW is at his job. as someone who's dabbled in the content creator DND space since the Penny Arcade audio podcasts, I can't imagine anyone else doing a better job of leading this group than BDW now. excited for the return to the main story cliffhanger

I just had one of my players that's been with us a few weeks now say he wanted to try DMing a little one shot. He said afterwards that he knows how I feel when he decides to do silly little stuff with big consequences (like talk shit to the guards) and how it feels for a party to completely miss an event he had planned. Every player should run at least a few games with people they're comfortable with so they know what we have to go through xD

i mean sure, to each their own. it just seemed like a needlessly racially charged joke that is something i would, and have, heard from a 13 year old white kid. it’s just a stereotype that hispanic moms beat their kids, which plenty of people joke about, but i don’t think it was done in a way that was particularly funny or added anything to the bit. like having the only hispanic old lady character go from an abuela to just being “mrs. chancla” feels more like a caricature than a character to me. same thing with mrs. p’awg to some extent. my girlfriend commented on it at first but that character doesn’t feel like a character, it feels like a stereotype. it comes across as kinda gross. my partner’s been listening to the pod with me and by herself for years and this is the first time she’s brought anything like this up. i usually think the boys do a really good job of making their racier bits still be in good taste for the most part. it’s a pod of 4 white guys and i think they’re self aware of how that can come across and don’t want to add to that association. unfortunately, i think this was just a miss. it happens and that’s okay, it’s not the biggest deal in the world and it seems like a lot of people liked the characters which is also fine. on the off chance one of the guys reads it i wanted to expand some so its not just criticism without context.

I felt myself getting annoyed at this episode in a way that didn't happen with the others, and I think you summarized why. I've watched every single main, premium, and D&D episode of the Yard so it's not a lack of familiarity with their comedic style or personalities. I think Nick's attempts at easy, (sometimes) lame jokes are usually transformed into acceptable humor by the other boys' reactions and pushback, which usually enhances the bit. But in a one-shot D&D scenario the others seem more focused on actually playing. Perhaps just boredom and carelessness
