FemiNova Part 3

The staircase stretches downward before him, the cool air brushing his soft skin and heightening his awareness of the short black dress clinging to his body.

Harlan stops, looking down like it’s a valley he cannot cross.

“Harly, Sweetheart?” Evleen’s deep voice questions, standing just behind him. “Are we going down, or are we just going to eat our dinner here, at the top of the staircase?”

“N-No…” Harlan squeaks back a reply, slightly scared of his own mother in her Feminova form as she towers behind him. “I-I…I’m just preparing myself mentally.

“Sweetheart…” Evleen sighs. “Stop worrying so much. You’re still you, just a different kind of you.”

“B-But…” Harlan looks back up at his mother, worried. “I just know Suma and Aren are going to be mean to me. I’ve had a bad day, y’know. Beaten up earlier by Ben and his gang, and now this! I don’t think my heart can take it.”

“Gotta face the music sometime,” Evleen replies earnestly.

Harlan shakes his head, pink strands of hair flicking into his eyes. “I really don’t!” He turns, trying to slip past her. “I just want to hide, or at least put on some pants.”

“Sweetheart….” Evleen says sternly, stopping him from passing her and running to his room. “Come on. I’m right here with you.”

The two jostle back and forth as Harlan struggles to get past her. With every second, their movements grow faster and wilder, until, to anyone else in the house, it sounds like a herd of elephants rampaging through the hallway.

Still, Harlan, no matter how quickly his new body moves, he can move past her.

“MOM!” he whines out, breathing heavy as he glares up at her. “Stop it!”

Curious about all the commotion, Suma stands alone at the bottom of the staircase, looking up in complete bewilderment. Her mouth falls opens and her eyes bulge wide.

“What. The. Frick.” She glares up at them, her arm shaking as she slowly points. “Mom! Dad!” she cries. “There are two weirdo’s in our house. Quick, help me!”

Harlan turns, and his sister’s stare almost makes his heart jump straight out of his throat. She’s seeing him for the first time in a dress.

“Suma….” Evleen laughs, placing a hand so heavy it feels like an anvil on Harlan’s shoulders. “We aren’t werido’s….It’s me, Mom, and your big brother, Harlan.”

“Although Harlan is acting like a big baby!”

“I am not!” Harlan turns and glares at his mothers. “Don’t call me a baby!”

Evleen looks confused, almost stunned. She studies Harlan’s face before shaking her head. “I never said you were a baby, sweetheart. Where did you get that idea?”

“Yes, you did!” Harlan glares harder. “You just told Suma I’m acting like a big baby!”

A sharp gasp from the bottom of the staircase snaps their attention downward. Slowly, Suma’s worry melts into understanding, then shifts into amusement. She covers a smirk with one hand while pointing with the other.

“Oh. My. God!” she begins to giggle. “Harlan! Is that you!? That’s you, isn’t it!? You’re a girl!” She laughs breathlessly. “Look at you! So girly in your dress, you femboy! Oh, that’s brilliant! My brother’s now my sister! Let’s have a tea party, brother! Let’s braid each other's hair!”

“What the heck! My brother’s a cuter girl than I am! That’s not right!”

Although embarrassed, Harlan stares down at his sister before trying to cover his body with both arms. “I am not a cute girl, Suma. Don’t say things like that!”

Her smile fades. “What, I never said you are cute. I’d never say nice things like that to you!”

“B-But…” Harlan looks around at Evleen, who just shrugs. “I’m sure you did.”

Suma once again starts to laugh. “That voice, Harlan! You sound like a Disney princess?”

“Suma….” Evleen scolds, squeezing Harlan’s shoulder for comfort, but actually feels like she’s going to break a bone. “Be nice. This is a big moment for your brother.”

“Ouch, Mom!” Harlan tries to break away from her. “What are you trying to do, break me in half? Stop already. I get it, you're like super strong!”

“Oh, sorry.” Evleen laughs, taking her hand away from him as she blushes. “Sorry, I never really use my Feminova form in the house. I forget….”

Suma looks past Harlan, curious. “So, that’s your Feminova form, Mom?” Suma throws her hands into the air to make her point. “You’re huge!” she says, impressed.

Gently coaxing Harlan down the stairs, Evleen softly smiles. “Yes, I know,” she says dimly.

Finally, at the bottom of the stairs, Harlan can’t bring himself to look at his sister. He stands with his back turned to her, pulling down the hem of his dress as low as it’ll go.

“Mom…” Suma stands beneath her, looking up. “Why is it….” She rudely points in Harlan’s direction. “Why is it Dork Face gets Feminova powers and I don’t?

Evleen’s about to reply, but Suma becomes more animated, jumping up and down and swinging her arms.

“It’s not fair! I’m a girl! He’s not! I’m next! Why does he get it before me! This is outrages! My rage is blowing gauges. I’ve been waiting for fricking ages!”

Suma stops throwing her arms around and nudges Harlan, trying to push him. But, for her, it’s like pushing a brick wall, and she stumbles backwards, making her even more irate.”

“Urgh!” she groans out, huffing and sighing to show her frustration! “Hope you're enjoying being a girl…..Harly,” she says in spite. “Suits you because you're such a whiney little B—”

“Suma!” Evleen interrupts with a booming voice. “Don’t you dare finish that sentence, young lady!”

“But, Mom!” Suma yells out, angry fists by her sides. “This is so unfair! If he weren’t such a whimp, Granny could have given it to me!”

“Right,” Evleen reaches down for Suma, gathering her up with one hand to hold her up in the air by her top. “You, young lady, are out of order.”

Evleen trudges toward the kitchen, leaving Harlan standing alone in the hallway. As she disappears around the corner with a screaming Suma in tow, Grandma Doris peeks out from the living room doorway, a delighted smile spreading across her face.

“Harlan, don’t you look nice in that dress?” Doris steps into the hallway and places a hand on his shoulder. “No need to be shy now. You look wonderfully feminine right now and deffo nothing like a whimp.”

“Evleen doesn’t know what she’s on about. Harlan is going to make a fine young woman, I just know it.

Still a little uncomfortable, Harlan turns to his grandma with a soft smile tugging at his lips. “Do you really think that, Grandma?”

Doris, looking him up and down slowly, tilts her head to one side. “Think what, dear?”

Harlan’s face scrunches up in thought. “You just said I’d make a fine woman.”

“Did I?” Doris replies with a confused smile.”

“I think so….”

“Sure,” Doris says, steering the conversation onward as she holds out her hand. “Come on. Let’s go see the rest of the family.” A light chuckle slips from her. “Suma’s had her little tantrum, so the worst of it is over now, all right.”

“Y-Yeah…” Harlan smiles and then looks down at his dress and his curvy body. “If you say so, gran…” he replies with a long sigh.

They walk into the kitchen, Harlan trailing behind. Grandma Doris throws up her hands, presenting Harlan to the family in his Feminova form for the first time.

“I know it’s a little unorthodox,” Doris says, stepping aside so everyone can see a very nervous Harlan, still clutching the hem of his dress and tugging it lower. “But here’s our newest Feminova. Isn’t she pretty?”

Harlan’s father, Jason, stands silent. Aren, his brother, stands bemused, and Suma lets out another huff of disapproval.

“Doris,” Jason rubs at his cheeks. “I really wish you’d discussed this with me first. Poor boy must be mortified by this.”

“I’m mortified by this,” Aren says sarcastically. “I don’t want another sister. Suma’s bad enough.”

“Hey!” Suma moans as Doris clears her throat to regain everyone’s attention.

“Why would he be?” Doris waves away Jason’s concerns. “Just because you’re insecure with your masculinity, Son, doesn’t mean Harlan has to be.”

The whole room falls silent at Doris’s blunt, but honest words.

“Oh, hush now…” Doris laughs and smiles through the awkwardness and then points at Evleen. “I know you’re intimidated by your wife's form, Jason. Doesn’t mean you have to be scared of your son when he’s Feminova, now does it?”

“B-But….” Harlan’s father’s face goes bright red as she glances at Evleen. “Mom,” he whines at Grandma Doris. “That’s a real low blow and really not fair, Mother.”

“Not fair?” Doris settles into a chair, then clears her throat and points in Harlan’s direction. “I’ll tell you what’s not fair, young man. Your son being bullied at school and being too afraid to talk to any of you about it. That’s what’s not fair.”

Silence once again, except for Doris, who almost cackles at the drama.

“Harlan?” his father says quietly, looking to Evleen for confirmation. “Is that true? You’re being bullied?”

Harlan can only manage a single nod as everyone, including Doris, stares at him. Nerves tightening, he tugs at his bright pink bangs, trying to hide behind them.

“Well,” Doris claps her hands together in delight. “He won’t be anymore. That bully ain’t going to stand a chance against the Feminova powers I’ve given him!” Doris gives Harlan a thumbs-up and a big smile. “Aint that right, sweetheart. You’re going to deck him, right?”

Harlan doesn’t know what to say, so he offers a wry smile.

“Granny Doris!” Evleen groans, shaking her head at the thought. “Harlan won’t do anything of the sort. That’s not proper at all, and a woman your age shouldn’t encourage such things!”

“She’s going senile in her old age. We might have to put her in a home once her Feminova powers wear off.”

“Mom! That’s so rude!” Harlan blurts out! “You can’t put Granny in a home!”

The room goes silent once again as everyone stares, confused, at Harlan.

“I-I….” Evleen looks embarrassed. “I didn’t say anything like that, Harlan dear.”

“You did!” Harlan folds his arms, catching his brother, Aren, staring like an idiot. “I heard you say it loud and clear. It’s not nice, Mom. Granny’s just trying to help me. I’m thankful someone in this family actually cares.”

Evleen looks around at everyone else, mortified, knowing she didn’t say anything. Jason and Aren just shrug.

Silence once again as eyes all land on Harlan.

“W-What? Stop staring at me! Is it really that weird that I’m a girl!? I’m still me, right, Mom!?”

“Interesting.” Granny Doris begins to smile wide. “Harlan, I’m going to think a number in my head. What is it?”

“Sixty Seven”

“Hearing the number loud and clear, Harlan answers. “Sixty-seven, but that’s easy. You just told everyone. ”

Silence settles again before Doris turns to Evleen with a knowing smile.

“Mind reader,” she says plainly. “That’s his grace. A powerful one, I’d wager.” Doris does a smug little dance and claps her hands in delight. “Still upset I let him inherit it, dear?” she adds, teasing, just to rub it in her daughter-in-law’s face.

“So that’s his grace!?” Evleen gasps, putting a hand over her mouth. “That’s crazy. Is that even possible!?”

“Urgh,” Suma groans, kicking the floor. “That’s my twilight bullshit he’s inherited! I wanna read minds! This is so unfair!”

Silence and more staring.

“I’m going to have to take him in, aren’t I, Grandma Doris?” Evleen asks.

“Yup.” She nods. “They’ll wanna know. They always do!”
