This GPT-2 video is kind of the reason I made the preceding several Computerphile videos. I started giving context for this video, and I ended up giving like an hour of context that became several videos.

In this one we talk about the safety concerns around GPT-2, the possible malicious uses of the technology, and OpenAI's decision to delay the release of the full size model.

Why Didn't They Release It? - Computerphile

That's a compelling theory as to why it hasn't been released. Personally I don't have any sympathy for the systems like Facebook that are likely to be impacted by cheap bots. Their concern isn't about a glut of 'bad' information, just a devaluation of the their user base to advertisers.

You are missing the point. I couldn't care less for Zuckerberg's money, either, but bot account networks are extremely potent propaganda machines. They were even in 2016 (although then they were mostly farms of cheap human labor), and were used very effectively in Agent Orange's campaign. Facebook will fight these not to preserve integrity, but, as you say, because they can't sell anything to Russian bots, but as a side effect we will, hopefully, be spared from at least some malignant propaganda machines.
