Details for episode 17 ------------------------- Fighting for position This actually does happen sometimes in Japan too, but it can be penalized. One major example is in the 2012 Japan Cup, when Gentildonna shoved Orfevre out of the way to win the race. Gentildonna was still given the victory, but the jockey was penalized and the win was considered very controversial. Details for episode 18 ------------------------- Obey’s Trainer Obey’s trainer seems to be based off of a combination of the jockey, Chris McCarron, and the trainer. Unfortunately I do not remember the trainer’s name, but apparently he was also a pretty big deal. ------------------------- Obey’s running style The lack of bounce is a reference to how McCarron looked completely stationary while riding on Pay the Butler. Apparently the Japanese were very impressed by this. ------------------------- Toni Bianca’s zone The rainbow color may be a reference to Beginning of a New Era since the real horse was Pokke’s dad. ------------------------- Toni Bianca’s vision The vision of Rudolf and Ace is more just representative of the dream of beating the Japan Cup slipping away. I don’t think they ever raced. ------------------------- Diagonal movement This move was considered a risky but genius move from McCarron in real life due to how it would both risk a penalty and be slower than going straight ahead.
