in episode 2, mountain tim saw a horseshoe with a triangular divot when he came across the murder scene. later in the episode, the horseshoe was shown on one of the shoes within the group chasing after johnny and gyro. when they beat robinson, mountain tim found the site and saw the print of the horseshoe with the divot following the group. then in episode 3, the horseshoe with the odd shape is zoomed in on to show that the boom boom family perpetrated those prior murders. johnny and gyro’s prints being hidden by the sand was important because it meant mountain tim couldn’t tell immediately that johnny was framed.
