Concubines of Xochimazatl (Patreon)
Content
Xochimazatl loves exotic foreign ladies, and is a patron of many long-distance merchants (pochteca). So all of his concubines are from outside the Valley of Mexico. They come from various backgrounds, ranging from commoners to noblewomen. Although Xochimazatl gave them Nahuatl names (based on their own names), he often talks to them in their native language.
In Aztec society, concubines were not considered formal wives. For example, they did not had a formal marriage ceremony. Furthermore, because they are often from lower social class or distant cities, they are considered less politically significant. However, once a woman gave birth to a son, her partner had to marry her formally or send her back to her parents. So while concubinage was not marriage among the Aztecs, neither was it a disreputable practice. Rather, concubinage was an accepted status with formal rights and obligations for both the man and the woman.

Coyolicue appeared on my other Mesoamerican drawing as unrelated characters. However, I really liked her design, so I decided to make them my formal OC. Now she will appear again from time to time!
*Edit: I corrected Coyolcue's name to "Coyolicue" because of the grammatical error.
