Kaylál (‘sky’ in Huastec) is an Huastec noblewoman from Tziccoac (Xiuhcoac), which was located in present-day North Veracruz.
Kaylál first met Xochimazatl in 1487, when he came to Tziccoac as an ambassador sent by the huei tlatoani Ahuitzotl. During his stay, Xochimazatl enjoyed some popularity among the locals because of his unusually polite demeanor—the Mexica were known to be arrogant by the Huastecs—and fluency in Huastec language. However, it was the ladies that Xochimazatl truly won over. Since then, all noblewomen of Tziccoac have eagerly awaited the ambassador's return, which he does frequently.
Kaylál is one of Xochimazatl’s favorite ladies in the whole Huasteca. When Xochimazatl visits Tziccoac, he always invites her to his accommodation on the first day. She always says yes, because she is eager to be intimate with her adorable little sweetheart.
Kaylál‘s appearance is based on Late Postclassic Huastec terracotta figurines.
