French Dogs (Patreon)

This time I tried something different from my usual stuff. A fanart of my two favorite dog characters, from the animated series set in 17th century France! Although it is a fairly niche category, at least two completely unrelated animations meet all of these criteria: Dogtanian and the Three Muskehounds (1981) and Belfort & Lupin (2025).

Dogtanian is an adaptation of the novel The Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas. The novel is set between 1625 and 1628. Therefore, I drew one of the characters, Aramis, in the uniform of the king's musketeers during Louis XIII's reign.

Belfort & Lupin was a bit trickier to figure out. The series doesn't mention the specific year for its setting, and contradicting historical depictions further complicate the issue. While King Louis XIV seems quite young—no more than his thirties, I think—the Palace of Versailles looks like its later period after several renovations throughout the king's lifetime. So I chose the French court costume of the 1680s, which felt like the middle ground, and drew Belfort wearing it.

And, as usual, Willy finds himself between the hot guys!
