Half an hour of thrilling first-person gameplay from VR connoisseur extraordinaire, monsieur Beardo Benjo!

Let's be honest about it: Dark Souls games are HARD. I can barely survive 5 minutes, and that's only if I don't move around too much and wake up too many undead enemies. Yet he makes it look sooo easy, even with the added challenge of playing in first person, with his face right up in the belly of the beast.

It's a pleasure to watch him play, because I almost feel like I could slash through dozens of enemies like he does, if only I wasn't so greedy and I didn't always try to squeeze in one more blow.

Please like and subscribe to Beardo Benjo's channel, because he's doing such an amazing job showcasing VR mods and original games!!!

This NEW VR Mod for DARK SOULS 2 is EPIC! // Dark Souls 2 First Person VR (Quest 3)

The Dark Souls 2 VR mod is HERE, which means we can finally play the entirety of the "worst Dark Souls game" in glorious VR, either in third person or, for an added challenge, first person! Dark Souls 2 in first person VR is genuinely incredible, it might not be the most popular Souls game but locations like Majula and boss fights like The Last Giant look and feel incredible in VR thanks to the sense of scale, depth and immersion that VR mods provide. I'm actually a big fan of Dark Souls 2, it feels more "gamey" and disjointed than the other installments and the world building is messy to say the least but it still has a special place in my heart so playing it in VR with this new mod is something I'm so excited to do. VR Dark Souls a MUCH harder however, especially if you choose to play in first person, so prepare yourself for a much bigger challenge than the game normally offers thanks to reduced spatial awareness and some slightly wonky controls. With this new Dark Souls 2 VR mod we now just need a Dark Souls 3 VR mod, Sekiro VR mod and then a full fledged Bloodborne PC release with accompanying VR mod and I'll be able to die a happy boy... This Dark Souls 2 VR gameplay was captured using the Steam version of the game on a 4090 VR ready PC with a Quest 3 connected via wired link cable. This new Dark Souls 2 VR mod is available via the Luke Ross REAL mod patreon, grabbing the newest version of this mod will give you access to a version that works with all previous games (Cyberpunk, Elden Ring, Ghost of Tshushima, Horizon etc...). Winter Wolf

I can't stand that guy (watching him, anyway - never met him in real life), but I admit his channel is useful for occasional VR news, and I was glad to see the mod getting well-deserved attention. Might have to reinstall DS2, but I'm enjoying Elden Ring in VR too much go back. DS3, though (hint, hint)...

Brandon(Post Maester)

I am surprised at his approach to the game since he has played through it already. Since I have also played through it multiple times, my approach was much more methodical. I didn't head through the forest for the first 5 or 6 hours. By the time I got there the hippo was a piece of cake :) Already had a really solid weapon and armor and a bunch of levels. Of course, that would not be as fun for people to watch 😁

Is anyone else having massive frame drops in CP2077 when leaving the inventory, the map or even occasionally when doing finishers? After 10 to 15 seconds the frames go back to normal but it's a slideshow when it happens. This only started about a month ago and I haven't changed any in game settings at all from when it was stable. I use Vive Pro 2 and software is the same since Nov. 24. My guess is Nvidia drivers, windows update or the Mod itself. Before I roll back the mod or drivers to test I'm curious if I'm the only one with this issue.

michael whatley

i am one of the small few that thinks its the best souls game and in vr its fantastic

Brandon(Post Maester)

There seems to be a bug where the inventory screen doesn't use DLSS. It has seemed to cause frame spikes like that for a few people now. Maybe your system is being hit a lot harder for a moment when exiting or something. Still not sure but you can open the REAL overlay when you are in the menu and see that the render resolution is rendering without upscaling. Not sure why that is.

Indiana Jones just patched - and broke the mod :(

Brandon(Post Maester)

The log file is for AFOP ;) The RealVR.ini file still has the mipmap options set to on, you should disable those. If that is when using the Pimax. I haven't tested the actual release version with AH, I'll give it a shot but the test version with the DLC fix worked fine for me. Unless the game updated again in the last few days or something.

Darren Stoller

Ok thanks about the minmaps, forgot but why won't it work on the quest 3?

Brandon(Post Maester)

I would need a RealVR63.log file :) the one in your post is for AFOP and not AH. I just tried AH and it worked fine for me. DLSSS doesn't seem to work properly while the shader cache is doing its thing but after that is done loading it actually looked pretty amazing with the newest DLSS 4 version.

Darren Stoller

The second pastebin was from trying to use the quest 3?

Darren Stoller

still not working after turning off minimaps and get a fatal error

Brandon(Post Maester)

Can I get a log file for AH if that is the game not working for you. The log file you provided is for Avatar.

Darren Stoller

Don't know how the hell that happened. Got fed up with the game and uninstalled ,reinstalling now so we'll try again tomorrow mate

LiamMcBillyBob

Atomic Heart exits VR after the opening screen and does not register my dualsense controller. I'm not sure what happened. I had originally been able to sit through the menu and change settings in VR. Hope it's something stupid on my end. :) RealVR64Log below: https://pastebin.com/yYPZw935

Brandon(Post Maester)

You could try disabling Steam Input if you have it enabled in the Steam controller settings for the game. Also make sure the update didn't change any important game settings like turning on frame gen or set the fps cap in game to something low like 60 or 90. Basically, double check your settings :) I tested it today with the latest mod version and it worked just fine for me. Do you have any other input devices plugged in other than your keyboard and mouse? Have you tried with the controller wired if you are using it wirelessly?

Mark Watson

Hey, quick question since I may have missed it..Has the "Really big thing" for Cyber punk happened yet? I remember that being teased earlier. I been waiting to play it in VR when whatever that is comes out.

JPPresents

Thanks for the video, but I was playing on Gamepass. I was nearly done with the story, so I decided to finished in flat.

Is there any news about Witcher 3? I read a while ago that it might get added. Asking because I tried W3 with "competition" VR software and its not even close to the level I got used to with CP2077 :(

Maxwell Edison

Came here to ask exactly this. With the amount of hype that The Witcher 4 announcement has been drumming up around the series as a whole, it seems like it'd be a great move to try for Witcher 3 VR.

Brandon(Post Maester)

Luke tried it last year, if I remember correctly. He said it was too much of a mess to try and mod.

Darren Stoller

Finally got atomic heart running quite well

ANPUT

CMON WHAT ABOUT KINGDOM COME DELIVERANCE 2!!! IT WAS MEANT FOR VR! LOL

Evrim

Hi Brandon, i would like to ask two things: 1) What is the most suitable refresh rate for headset (among 72, 80, 90 and 120 Hz) when we are playing with Legacy AER? Somehwere i have read that the highest is not always optimal to reduce ghosting in Legacy AER. The other two 1/3 and 1/2 mods are unfortunately not options for me since my pc cant handle it smoothly enough (i have rtx 4070 super), 2) By 4 March GTA V pc will get an update with improved visuals and DLSS 3, so even unofficially a return back to the game would be nice. Does anybody know whether we can be able to play it still with version drawback (old exe but new dll files)?

D S

Generally for frame pacing 120hz would be best, but you may notice the judder more since the refresh may be quicker. There is no best I don't think.

Brandon(Post Maester)

For Legacy, the higher your fps the better. I'd at least try to aim for 90 but it mostly depends on how much the motion judder/jitter bothers you. It doesn't bother me much unless I drop down pretty low, but I try to stary around at least 70-80fps depending on the game. Some slower paced open world games, it isn't as noticeable as something like Cyberpunk where there can be things moving all over the place and there is lots of fast motion. I generally like to be at 90fps but if you can hit 120, it would probably be less noticeable still. That is definitely a possibility for some games with the recent framework improvements like fov optis and DLSSS. I am personally happy at 90fps and I would pick higher res on my Aero over being able to hit 120fps. It is going to be somewhat subjective depending on how much the motion jitter bugs you though. Some people find it really distracting which is why AER V2 was created :) You can look up videos on YouTube for playing GTA V in VR. You will have to downgrade the game. The videos will usually have the files needed in the description. Flat2VR discord is a good place for info on this. Luke no longer supports any of the Take Two games because of the DMCA so there will be no fixes or improvements for them.

Darren Stoller

Also, I've start dark souls for the first time...wish me luck

Hoshi82

Yeah I am now on the second map and I want to explore Kuttenberg so bad in VR. Walking through horse shit. ^^ Nah kidding but the visuals of that game are just amazing.

ANPUT

Just figured i would pop in here to literally BEG FOR KINGDOME COME DELIVERANCE 2 VR! 😂🤣🤣 THIS GAME WAS MADE FOR VR AND WOULD LOOK AMAZING!

FlyingWaffle

It's probably specified somewhere already (didn't see it), but does the mod work with all STEAM versions of the DS2? There's a standard edition and then a reworked one (forgot its name, but it's the one with better lighting, etc)... don't want to buy the wrong one by mistake, neither are actually very cheap given the age of the game.

FlyingWaffle

For Elden Ring, I have to disconnect my mouse/keyboard (toggle them off on my USB hub) as the game starts... otherwise the game doesn't recognize/use my controller.

Brandon(Post Maester)

I would get the Scholars of the First Sin edition. That is the one Luke had when making the mod so the older versions could possibly have issues or not work. We don't know for sure. Plus Sotfs has all the DLCs and some new stuff added. I have played through almost the entire game now including DLCs. Only issue I had sometimes is when scripted events happen or there is a lot going on, I get a heavy frame drop and it has to climb back up to 180. I can just lower PPD and that solves it, but I'd rather enjoy it at high PPD with occasional drops :) I am farming the Giant Lord ATM and when the head comes rolling across the screen with all the enemies fighting, I get a big drop like that. Rest of the battle is perfectly fine though.

Brandon(Post Maester)

Actually after reading the release post again, it is the only version that works :)

Duzy Cat

how do you change the resolution? I cant find the PPD slider like in CP2077 or Doom. I'm trying to find any info on Patreon but the only DS-related post I can find here is this one

Brandon(Post Maester)

Check the game settings. There should be custom resolutions added in there.
