Hey fellas! I have been silent for a while, but in the upcoming days I'm going to positively flood your inbox with posts, to the point that you will probably think "man, I wish he would just shut up already".

Well, if my health permits. I have come down with something that feels suspiciously like COVID. These days it's become really hard to tell it apart from a normal bout of the flu, and even tests are inconclusive, especially in the beginning, but I have been feeling some shortness of breath, which for me is a first, so that makes me wonder.

Anyway, we all know that R.E.A.L. life is messy, so let's head on over to the virtual land, which as you'll see in the livestream from Eurogamer that's starting in about four hours... is pretty messy too, with insect goo splattering all over the place ;-)

EDIT: I'm not sure why the embedded placeholder above is showing the wrong thumbnail (an old Red Matter video), but if you click on it, it should change to the correct countdown ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

So, the seemingly never-ending work that I undertook during the last few months, in order to make a quality leap on the Alternate Eye Rendering tech that my mods employ, is finally starting to come together. It's not quite ready for public release yet, and in fact you'll see that the preview version of the Grounded mod that I gave to Sir Ian Higton, Knight of the Order of VR Streamers, does not have the new tech yet. Also, I'm not publishing the Grounded mod until next week.

But again, unless I need to be hospitalized (definitely hope that won't be the case), the schedule for this year's end, and for 2023, will be pretty crazy.

AER v2 is in its infancy and still needs a lot of TLC, which means that at least for the moment every game will require some custom tuning to really shine, so I'm thinking that I will roll out the new tech incrementally, alternating old titles and new ones. The first game to ship will probably be FF7R, since it was the one I chose for the teaser video, and also it runs beautifully without a single hitch on my system. Before Dec 31 there will also be the public release for Grounded that hopefully you'll be able to see in the stream above in a few hours, and... yes, of course dear old Spidey, who finally swings the way I want in perfect, ghostless 3D with the new tech.

I know that you're full of questions, so today or tomorrow I'll be writing a technical post explaining why AER v2 is so important, what I already achieved, and how I hope to evolve it from January onwards.

However, let's first have some fun with spiders! And ants, and ladybugs and towering blades of grass! And did I mention giant, horrible SPIDERS!!

I will be in the chat :-)

I'm sure that Ian will cover the following in the livestream, but just in case: the mod has been developed for the PC Game Pass version of the game. It should also work on the Steam version as usual, but this time the Game Pass build is what everybody's got. And if you don't have a subscription, good news: you can get a one-month trial for $1, which means that you'll be able to play online and offline for 30 days basically for free.

Being co-op and not competitive, the game has no anti-cheat protection, so it should be perfectly safe to play online without the risk of getting banned.

Let's Play Grounded R.E.A.L. VR Mod - OH GOD THOSE SPIDER ARE GOING TO BE DARKSIDE - Ian's VR Corner

#Grounded gameplay is intense enough as it is, what with the gigantic, flesh-hungry insects and brutal survival mechanics, but how hard would the game be if you were actually there, in the grass, rather than watching it on a screen? That's what Ian Higton is about to find out as he plays the brand new Grounded VR mod gameplay from Luke Ross on this special live episode of Ian's VR Corner! While Ian will be playing with Grounded R.E.A.L. VR mod gameplay, he'll also be joined by Zoe Delahunty-Light who will be playing in flatscreen so she can watch as Ian gets freaked out by spiders that are now the size of a house... #eurogamer This Grounded R.E.A.L. VR mod will be out next week, just in time for Christmas, and you can get your tiny little shrunk down hands on it for yourself by signing up to Luke Ross' Patreon which you can find here: https://www.patreon.com/realvr Become a Team Eurogamer member: https://youtube.com/eurogamer/join Subscribe to Eurogamer - http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=eurogamer For the latest video game reviews, news and analysis, check out http://www.eurogamer.net and don't forget to follow us on Twitter: http://twitter.com/eurogamer

Hi! New to all this so thank you in advance for your patience with me. I have a 3060 and when I run the game I get an error to update from 527.56 to 528.49. I looked up how to do this and my system says it’s current. I’m not sure if my issue is from this or not. I can only get the game to work on my vr headset (hp reverb g2) if I start it in VR then open the game. It comes up flat and looks like a movie theater. I read the directions that said to just open the game from steam. When I do this I can hear the game in the headset but can only see the Microsoft studio looking thing. I followed these directions then: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Hogwarts Legacy\Engine\Plugins\Runtime\Nvidia\Streamline\Binaries\ThirdParty\Win64" or equivalent, and rename "sl.interposer.dll" to "sl.interposer_bak.dll“. And that didn’t change anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Brandon(Post Maester)

Is it asking you update your GPU driver? The latest driver is actually beyond that at this point. it is 531.18 with a hotfix to make it 531.26 or something like that. You can download it from here https://www.nvidia.com/Download/driverResults.aspx/199990/en-us/ If you have already done that, put a copy of your RealVR64.log file on pastebin and post the link here and I will take a look. Also make sure you have disabled Steam Theater for the game.

Galactic Monkeh

Happy Holidays to you and your family. I hope you can kick what's making you sick fast. Thanks for all you do.

Steve Bobowski

1st time getting the covid? sheesh, i got a 4 year old so having covids the norm now. youll be fine....legends never die......the brain fog is the worst tho. thanks for the update, really appreciate you!

Sascha

First of all, take care and get well soon. Don't rush anything. And second: really excited for the grounded mod and aer v2 👍🏼

Brandon(Post Maester)

Noooooo! You are not welcome to the Covid party. I tore up your invite. Hope it doesn't hit you hard and you are feeling better after a couple days. Grounded should be fun in VR. Nice pick for something different. I am still looking forward to Spiderman the most though.

LowRider

Will the Mods in future all be based on Game-Pass games?

Andi Mountainman

Great I'm looking forward to the game. I also have PC Game Pass. Will it also run on the Pico 4?

Brandon(Post Maester)

I would guess it will run about the same as the other mods if you mean the Pico Jitter. Until Pico includes the fix in an update I wouldn't expect much difference.

Brandon(Post Maester)

I am going to give a very confident guess of no. That would be very limiting wouldn't it?

Daniel Sobrado

Wow, this is all pretty cool news, except the covid part, hope it goes away and leaves you be soon. Grounded was never a game that I was interested in, but the prospect of experiencing the scale of its world in VR is quite exciting to be honest. Thank you for all your hard work, it’s super impactful: the prospect of a mature a framework for converting 3D games into vr, is one of the most exciting things in the vr scene right now IMO.

Andi Mountainman

Ok then it won't work, because there hasn't been an update yet. Thanks

2026-09-05 06:00 I hate covid... In 2020, my grandmother died from it. Of course, covid is much less dangerous for young, but man, be careful! - do not refuse to be hospitalized, if you feel really bad.. About AER2 - super cool and I can't wait! But speaking about me personally, I almost don't notice the "ghosts" from AER. But the "aura" from almost all objects from TAA - what annoys me. Of course, over time I stop paying attention to it, also I can replace TAA with FXAA through Reshade. But.. if find a universal way for all games with TAA to reduce this artifact - it would definitely level your VR mods with full-fledged VR ports! Especially with the new AER2. P.S. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wl90tt4newk ;D (I apologize for my English)

Brandon(Post Maester)

If Spiderman's settings are similar to Miles Morales(I would think so) then there are options besides TAA. Lots of options to tweak things,

realvr

I'd also say no... at least for now Steam is usually the go-to market for all things gaming ;-)

realvr

Thank you Raph, and your English is perfect! A universal fix for TAA is unfortunately impossible, as each engine implements it in a different way... But perhaps it might be feasible for Unreal-based titles! Let's hope that some modder comes to the rescue either by providing an alternative solution to TAA (which most people hate even in 2D) or by making Unreal's TAA implementation compatible with there being two separate streams of images, left and right, instead of just one :-D

Tomo

Brilliant! I see all my letters to Santa reached you well! very good. The nurses I sent should also arrive shortly. We cant afford you not feeling well even for a day. They look after you and will also bring hot Glühwein - that will fix you up!

Brandon(Post Maester)

Tomo, hope we can play some Grounded together some time. Will be fun to hook up with other patrons on Flat2VR discord.

Tomo

100% brother! I am down

Tomo

I think WAY OUT is also unreal engine

Cercata

Hey Luke, I hope you are well. If you don't write everyday now, I'll worry.

realvr

Yes, hot wine, thank you Tomo!!!

Flowzen

get well soon mate. all the best.

Allan Tweddle

Have you ever considered trying to mod The Witcher 3 at all? There's a great 1st person mod available that i doubt now actually works with the most recent update. I did not download it as CDPR pre warned about script based mods breaking so i blockec auto updateson GOG so i can play the mod. I ran the game with the mod plus VorpX as there's nothing else available otherwise so wondered if you had considered it at all? Here's some gameplay :- https://youtu.be/0D4bgfMrsSQ P.S. hope you're well

Cercata

Are you from Vitoria-Gasteiz ?

Cercata

He was waiting for the next gen version, it was one of the most voted games in the poll

yaong75

It's a disaster beyond the nightmare of a Cockroach in Fallout 4.

Allan Tweddle

I've been looking for the poll as I'd like to vote for something (Like God of War). Where can i find it please?

John Zigmont

I have no interest in Grounded I would prefer Callisto Protocol, God of War and Returnal.

LowRider

I really like the current mod line up - and I think I will also like Grounded. But my favorite is also the Witcher 3.. I've heard the Callisto Protocol does even stutter on a 4090 in flat.. this is definitely not a good idea for VR..

JBOX

Hi luke get well soon mate i have had covid myself and it can be very nasty so get well soon my friend and back to fighting fit 😉🥊🍻

Tomo

Yes yes yes !!! Holiday season is long! Hope they all coming. My 1000% favorites as well.

Tomo

Still Callisto would be an amazing VR game. AER2 will sort it out!

Tomo

Did someone say HIGH ON LIFE would be cool in VR? 🤭

Mark Ashton

+1 Im really hoping bethesda starfeild can get a mod . get well soon LUKE

Fearganainm

Hello Luke . Sorry to hear that you are un-well. Hopefully it won't be too bad. Grounded rocks :) Looking forward to trying it with your mod. Tried it with Vorpx and those spiders are feckin' terrifying. Greets from Ireland. Get well soon. Slainte

John Zigmont

I'm playing the Callisto Protocol with SuperDepth3D via Virtual desktop and it runs fine no problems at all the only problem is the ray tracing is not implied well.

drowhunter

Returnal... When it comes out please , it's my dream

John Zigmont

Luke, I'm sorry to hear you don't feel good remember your health should come first. Please take care.

Giovanni M

Hey, Bro! The Witcha! I want The Witcha!

Tomo

1000%!!

Wulf

Hope you feel better soon.I been in the same boat bruh. Cant wait for grounded. Keep up the good work :)

Brandon(Post Maester)

The poll was taken like a year ago or so. It is no longer open for voting.

Brandon(Post Maester)

There was a patch that fixed some of the stuttering. But still some performance issues for some. I fully agree with Lukes decision to try and have variety in the lineup. I also would love a Witcher 3 mod though :)

Brandon(Post Maester)

I thought about it but there are already so many requests. I am a Rick and Morty fan, so probably just play in 3d when it comes out.

Tomo

its hilarious. and the rainbow world they made - def down for VR Mod ! 3d not enough in that case imo

Thomas

So I just bought a new PC (RTX 3080) and it can run Cyberpunk on medium to high setting with resolution 2700 by 2700 (27-something, to be exact) just fine. However, the halo'ing is just insane. It's not "ghosting" because GTA works fine. But halo'ing. Very annoying flickering aura around objects. Makes the game barely unplayable and quite frankly look very bad. Any idea how to minimize or fix this? Also, I heard people say the halo'ing started after a certain cyberpunk update. If so, do you know which one? Because maybe downgrading the game might help me!

Brandon(Post Maester)

Hi Thomas, there are options for eliminating or mitigating the haloing and it all depends on what kind of experience you want to go for. After the last update a lot of people have noted that the haloing is worse and the current theory is that they changed something in their TAA or something along those lines. DLSS Qaulity seems to bring the haloing back to how it used to be where it was less noticable. So first, you could try raising your resolution which helps in itself and then using DLSS Quality. Native and FSR TAA both seem to be worse right now in terms of haloing. You could also eliminate TAA with a mod on nexus which will remove haloing but leave you with worse aliasing(trees are a real mess) You could also switch the rendering mode from aer to mono which will eliminate stereoscopic depth but will also remove haloing completely. This is how I did my first playthrough and the game looks perfect visually. Still immersive but may not be the VR experience you want. You could also try increasing the world scale, this will make things larger up close and eliminate the stereoscopic effect the higher you go but will also reduce haloing the higher you go. So first try lowering some settings and playing at a higher resolution which will help then turning on DLSS Quality which will help some more and then moving the world scale up to 2 or 3 if you are still not ok with that. If you just can't stand any haloing at all it is probably best to play in mono which is still far more immersive than playing on a monitor.

Brandon(Post Maester)

Its already out! I totally forgot about the release! Been so busy with work and getting ready for our yearly Christmas trip that I forgot about it :( I'll have to fit it in after I get back. Be so nice to go back to my regular work schedule.

Brandon(Post Maester)

Yowza! That background blur is terrible. There is a mod to remove https://www.nexusmods.com/grounded/mods/25 Also can disable in the Engine.ini file. For game pass looks like it is located at C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Local\Maine\Saved\Config\WinGDK\Engine.ini Just add r.DepthOfFieldQuality=0 also if you want no motion blur r.DefaultFeature.MotionBlur=0

Brandon(Post Maester)

For anyone like me who was going to buy High on Life, it is on xbox game pass along with Grounded. Save yourself some money!!

Maximilian Pütz

I think mono a good option that many don´t know about - at least in ghostrunner the lack of depth is not really that much noticable and its a hughe performance win

Maximilian Pütz

Luke- can you please work on a forum or own discord.. the informations here are all over the place -and you really have to tinker and become an expert to get the best results with you mod

Brandon(Post Maester)

Discord would definitely have some big advantages. You have to consider the extra time involved though. Setup, considering exactly how a discord would best fit into future plans and add value to peoples memberships with possible perks and so forth. How much time is involved in running it and possibly having admins. Could be a great thing with some planning and foresight but having Luke's time focused on the mods is the highest priority. Plus I'm sure the man has a life and wants time to game himself :) There is a Luke Ross section on the Flat2VR discord but nobody actively runs it or answers questions with any real regularity. I go on now and then but don't invest much time there. There are people there and they do help sometimes. Patreon itself could definitely use an upgrade though :)

Brandon(Post Maester)

Your brain will still interpret depth to a degree and as long as you are immersed in the game you kinda just forget about it.

Maximilian Pütz

Sure but it's not so intensiv as you think very easy to Set up and maintain... Even a Website with helpfiles would be better... Here it's just a mess for us supporters. Luke could also use the flat2vr discord for that. With producing a product there comes also the responsibility to maintain it. Luke is one of the best payed mod creators there is. So he could just hire a guy for a faction of his income. I run a bussines myself so I know how those things work Cheers Maximilian

Brandon(Post Maester)

Just played for 30mins. Awesome so far, can't wait to play when I get back!

Hoshi82

Yes some own Discord server or forum would be nice. And as mentioned the section on Flat2VR is pretty much useless. Asked couple of times for some help and never got any answer.

Tomo

Enjoy your holiday time! - yeah i can totally see this game in VR - would be trippy fun!

Tomo

I think bringing back the poll option would be a good idea to see where the community is at. On one hand its fun to wait in anticipation and get surprised by GROUNDED lol , on the other would be great to see some of everyone's favs titles being on the list high up..

Tomo

Its bit more than a handful of games. I am sure you can handle. The set up is always same and easy and fairly fast to find if you new. If you done a game before its basically same for all. Many have different headsets, spec'ed up PC's, so naturally there are always questions and mostly very specific for each user. Luke / or Brandon are always answering all perfectly tailored to your problem. I dont think creating more work in maintaining new platforms for 8+ games or so is so necessary. Download mod, copy/paste, run Bin file. done. Any problems, ask. Sure it could be better structured but its not that bad if you a bit of a seasoned follower. Let Luke focus on his magic! Brandon is great with his knowledge and support so I am sure any questions will be addressed until you have a perfectly running game.

LowRider

I think it is better trying to be not a business and focus on creating mods. Things would get more complicated legally. No need for discord.

Maximilian Pütz

It is a Business as soon as you earn money with it :)

Brandon(Post Maester)

Silly joke. Made money by finding it on the ground but only one time so failed business. I don't think you need to be an expert at all to use Luke's mods, they are pretty easy to install and run. Similar to playing games in general on PC, you don't have to be any type of expert to buy a PC and download games but if you want to have the absolute best experience you can, you will have to invest time into learning about PCs and game settings and other software. Luke does go out of his way to help people with system issues beyond the scope of his actual product. I think that in terms of offering a quality product and adequate support for that product the Patreon still covers this decently. It would be like buying a part for a car and expecting support for the whole car when the company is really only responsible for helping you with the part they sold you. Is there room for improvement? Absolutely! But any business owner would be wise to take time and think through next steps and how best to make those improvements and how they will effect their product in the long run. Different businesses can have very different complications and challenges even when adopting common successful solutions to problems. If you have any particular issues yourself getting the mods to run well, don't hesitate to ask.

Maximilian Pütz

Thank you.. Installing is not the issue. It's understanding All the Options and optimizing for best Performance. My issue is not that Luke doesnt try to help. It's just with the Form. The comment sections is to chaotic for such issues. I would like a theat section for the each game. With guides, questions and stuff. I had to read through 100s of comments to get the Infos I need for each game.

Maximilian Pütz

Even reguarly updated pdfs would be better than this Chaos. To this day I havent even found a Video or Page explaining Lukes Mod Menue.

Brandon(Post Maester)

Yes, an overall beginner tutorial would be a good thing. The menu will be somewhat different depending on what you are playing of course but covering the basics would be helpful.

Cercata

3 days, no new posts ? Are you ok ?

realvr

Yes, a bit worse for the wear but OK :-) Thank you my friend. I will try to put up a post tomorrow

3649def

hello i have a question i would like to play elite dangerous odyssey with my pimax but i would like it to start without supporting steam vr just by the oculus application how to do it?

Brandon(Post Maester)

Yo Def, unfortunately we have to draw a line somewhere in the sand as to what we can help with. Since Elite Dangerous has nothing to do with Luke's mods, I'm going to have to leave you mostly hanging on this one. Not completely though, you should join the Flat2VR discord, which can be a decent place to get help with general stuff. If googling gets you nowhere, I would find a busy channel on that discord and ask for help.

My kids are nuts about Grounded (it's grounded, right) - Yea!

Brandon(Post Maester)

Ha, Awesome! Despite my best efforts, my kids aren't that interested in VR. Out of 3 daughters only my youngest really enjoys it. I plan on surprising her with Grounded as I think she will have a total blast as well.
