By now I'm pretty sure that every one of you is familiar with Ian's VR Corner []-D

I'm talking about Ian "trust me to take cover behind an explosive barrel" Higton, VR player and evangelist extraordinaire! Watch the latest episode of his weekly forays in the virtual realms for some intense Far Cry New Dawn gameplay, plenty of chicken slide-kicking action, and the usual tons of ROFL-level humor.

Oh, and don't forget to like and subscribe, because Ian is doing the Lord's work with his videos, and his love for VR is just what we need to convince video game creators that VR is NOT dead!!

In somewhat unrelated news: there's been much discussion in comments to my previous post about the best toilet seat arrangement, pre-position, during-position, and post-position, now that I'm a married man. My head is spinning. What about if I just pee in the shower? :-D

hey is there any way to have the spectator screen in mono? or is oculus mirror the best way

Brandon(Post Maester)

Yeah, that is probably your best bet for Quest headsets. You can also use OBS to capture the game for Oculus headsets.

Congrats on getting hitched. I’ve been married for 14 years and my advice is down with the lid, don’t mention you’ve pee’d in shower lol and compromise should never be always only one sided. Loving Far Cry 4 at the moment thank you. Can I ask if you get time in the future can look at VR’ing the Farm Simulator games from Giants Software as they can be so chilled at times. Peace.

I'm having issues with the mod and Elden ring. Every time I try to run it and the screen pops to choose offline or online when I click it it reboots again to the same offline / online screen, has anybody solved this issue before? I'm using a quest 2 and connecting with the cable / wireless and going on steamvr.

Brandon(Post Maester)

If you just remove the seat altogether, then there is only one option. 👍

I have problems with cyberpunk 2.11 am I doing something wrong or did the update break the mod? Currently im playing on 1.63 with a older mod version because the new doesnt work can you please update or tell me how long it will take. Thanks

Wilson Ng

The latest mod works with the latest cyberpunk update, I’m playing it.

Brandon(Post Maester)

Yep, just use Real version 11.2.1 and it should work fine with CP 2.11

Cercata

toilet seat arrangement ? I don't get that clue about the next game :P

Jay

I sincerely congratulate you on your marriage. I'm wondering if it's possible to make a Granblue Fantasy Relink VR mode.

Brandon(Post Maester)

If he did decide to, probably wouldn't be for quite a while out. Already have a couple more Far Crys probably and Forbidden West.

Jay

I didn't understand what you were saying. The story has been delivered, but you haven't heard it in person yet?

Cercata

Someone should release that, the masochists that buy powerwash simulator and lawnmower simulator would buy that too :P

Shake 'n' Bake Gaming

Cheers, ive use Obs lots tbf, it was more for the people in the room who i have over, so they dont see a flashing image without having to use Oculus Mirror

Brandon(Post Maester)

They could just play the Sims. My wife loves that game for some reason I cannot understand. I am with Mateo311 on those kinds of games, there are chores I need to get done in real life, so why would I waste my time doing virtual chores??? Doesn't sound fun at all.

Brandon(Post Maester)

If you stick with the flashing image, I find they all go away, and you can just play VR all day with no distractions. :)

Brandon(Post Maester)

No, I will mention it to Luke but right now I am just trying not to bother him and let him get accustomed to being a newly married man :) I will mention it (quite possible he has already seen your request) when we talk again. I was just saying that if he was to do a mod for it, it most likely wouldn't be for a quite a while because there are still at least 2 Far Cry titles left to mod as well as Horizon Forbidden West at the end of March.

Cercata

I played the first sims game a lot, loved it. You could do things you shouldn't do IRL, like when a visit goes to the toilet, remove the door and let him die, or having a lot of girlfriends ... But the sims 2 came with very little content on launch, it was clear they were reserving it for DLC, and Sims2 looked like a downgrade to me on launch. BTW, Sims 1 was more about social interaction than chores, for example, work was just time that wasn't available at home, and income. I don't know in recent games ...

Jay

Thank you for always providing good advice and answers.

Brandon(Post Maester)

Well, I don't know that my advice is always good, but you are most certainly welcome Jay :)

Far Cry ND is stuning game but I regret that Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is not in VR because this wonderful 3D world was created to be "Avatar of me".

Brandon(Post Maester)

I am not too hyped for that game, but I agree it would definitely be beautiful to explore in VR for a while. Could happen later this year 🤷‍♂️ it has been requested a number of times.

Cercata

Another CP2077 patch ... this is the marriage gift from CDPR to Luke XD

Cercata

That's snowdrop ... in theory snowdrop has native VR support :-\

Brandon(Post Maester)

Lukes mod still works with this patch thankfully. Only broke some of the other big mods.

In hogwarts, I have followed all the directions and VR is working BUT...and this is kinda big: I have a a "forced" 2D screen overlay of the game within the VR which i couldnt get rid off...HOWEVER it seems that the overlay will disappear when the charecters arent in a "cutscene" ...talking to one another....ANyone that can help...I REALLY want to experience this in VR....THX

Marcin Augustyniak

Maybe in the future will be official support but we have yet a few projects like Dying Light, Terminator Resistance with official VR support but uncoplished cause some reasons and finally hidden from us :)

Started New Dawn on my laptop which runs fine but in vr its grainy which is difficult to look terrible and cyberpunk works fine but won't run in vr. Is my laptop just not powerful enough to run in VR?

Brandon(Post Maester)

What kind of GPU does your Laptop have. The problem with Laptops for VR is that performance is lower than PC counterparts. They need to be more power efficient and not drain your battery quickly so they are lower powered versions of PC parts usually which equals less performance. I can run them on my 3070 laptop but it is not a great experience compared to a 3080TI or upper 40 series PC. You should focus on lowering game settings as much as possible and raising resolution. If you have a really low end system, there is also Mono rendering mode which is just the render from one eye, so no Stereo 3d. It will look far better at lower resolutions though and still much more immersive than playing flat. You could also try lowering your headset refresh rate as low as possible and that will lower the fps required for using 1/3 or 1/2 rendering mode which will allow you to increase resolution more. Then there is Legacy which will free up some overhead for the GPU because it is not generating extra frames like 1/3,1/2 but it will have motion jittering. You will probably have to do some experimenting to find a good balance but really depends on your system.

Rory Mulhern

That sounds about right I have a rtx 3060. I'm hoping to get a pc near the end of the year might leave messing around with these mods until then thanks.

Simon Simon

To have a great experience in VR, It's currently hard to get around a RTX 4090. For me, I get instant motion sick under 4k resolution and 90 fps.

Twelvetoedtom

Change the resolution silder to around 15-20 and then click apply changes. You may have to rerun the game but this should significantly help.

James West

Hi Luke. Thank you for all you do. I can't get New Dawn [or Far Cry 6] to work because it can't find my game profile [there is one]. If i knew where it was looking I could just put the profile in a folder where it is looking, but i don't know where to make it [that is how I got Far Cry 5 & HOL to work].

Brandon(Post Maester)

You can change the .bat file to a .txt file and open it with WordPad to see where it looks. It should look where the game stores the user files normally. Appdata/local folder for instance for Hogwarts. It will look in Documents/My Games for Far Cry. Something like Forbidden West actually has its settings saved in the registry so it looks for a registry file. You can look through and get a sense of where it is looking though.
