In this continuity, she can't use spells without speaking at least not yet. Plus the spells without speaking thing is a rare trait for her in most versions of her character and she doesn't have it often

So to play Devil's advocate, Superman's usefulness is more for his bond with Conner. Remember that at this point they are like brothers. Second this is not the final version of Zatana, she's still young and probably hasn't reached her comic potential where she doesn't need words for her spells. Lastly did you guys not notice Zod's face when that kid said father and mother he looked wary like he doesn't trust that person. Final thing. The green lantern at the beginning of the episode, i think, is the soin of the one who died.
