The April challenge review will need to wait until next week due to my studio being halfway in the closet at the moment but the May challenge is to make something using ONLY major chords for the chords you use.

A major chord is: 3 notes. The space between the bottom and middle note is a major 3rd (4 semitones or keys/frets), and there's a perfect 5th (7 semitones or keys) between the bottom and top note. If you want to count from the middle to the top, that's a minor 3rd (3 semitones/keys). For example, C E G, or Eb G Bb, or G B D, or F# A# C#.

You might be thinking "aw man this means my song will be dorky and happy sounding" and to that I present the following evidence to the contrary: Everything In Its Right Place. Also, trust me bro. You might find that if you string together any number of related or unrelated major chords, it sounds officially Dope. Do not fear the major! If you want to be really daring, play them so the bottom note of the chord (root) is a tritone (6 semitones) apart. For example, C to F#. Killer. You may of course invert the chords (if you don't know what that means, don't worry about it).

If you're someone who typically doesn't write using chord progressions (i.e. layered melodic lines, riffs, etc), I challenge you to do so! The chords can be arpeggiated.

Deadline is the end of the month at midnight wherever you are in the world!

Please keep it to 5 minutes if possible.

Additional songs that use all major chords!... Amii Stewart - Knock On Wood Beatles - I Am The Walrus (major triads, 6ths, and dominant 7ths) Joni Mitchell - Free Man In Paris Lenny Kravitz - I Wanna Fly Away Rasputina - Endomorph (several of the sections use all major chords to my ears, might potentially be all major chords?)
