This month's challenge is to make something using only minor chords! A minor chord might be:

C Eb G (C minor)

D F A (D minor)

Eb G Bb (Eb minor)

G Bb B (G minor)

etc.

There are 3 semitones between the bottom and middle note (root and 3rd). There are 4 semitones between the middle and top note (3rd and 5th). The distance from root to 5th is a perfect 5th, or 7 semitones.

However, you don't have to play the chords with the notes in this order (root position). You could play the C minor chord like C G Eb above it. You could just play C in the bass, and an Eb in your melody, for example.

If you're not sure if what you're playing is minor by ear, see if your DAW or hardware can help you out by restricting you to only minor chords. Another way is to sample a minor chord and then pitch it up and down. If you need any help with this, message me here or on Discord!

Inspiration: Depeche Mode uses lots of minor chords. So does Danny Elfman!

Deadline is October 31st at midnight wherever you are in the world!

Please keep it to 5 minutes if possible.

We all know you're just dying to hear a minor flattened 6!

Sade's "Smooth Operator" uses only minor chords in the form of minor 7ths to smoothen the sound!
