This is such a fascinating record. I wrote about them in my book. They had the world at their fingertips after The Colour of Spring and then used the budget to eschew that style completely in favour of that they truly wanted to. do, with Spirit of Eden. The record label were flabbergasted because there were no singles and they couldn't tour it either. Apparently hey hired a string quartet at great expense and apparently the only thing that made it onto the final cut was a mistake by the cellist. Hilarious if true, and the best kind of pretentious). Then a few years later they followed it up with this; their swansong. An album that is uniquely cut together and wasn't acclaimed at the time but is in folklore now. I've never heard an album that sounds more alive. Almost as if it's t its own entity altogether. That feedback solo in After The Flood is jarring to begin with but my god it's beautiful in a strange way. I've never heard an instrument sound like it's dying before. Taphead is incredibly mystical and New Grass is utterly gorgeous, and Runeii is the perfect understated send off. I never ceased to be in wonderment of this record. Thanks for listening
