Hi ixi, so excited to watch this! Do you have any objection if I share the YT link with Sean privately?

ixi music

I will be releasing a public version tomorrow and you can share that one with him!

adeward

Great, thank you!

Would recommend Tri Repetae from 1995 and Exai from 2013

Wow... Autechre analysing! I'm suprised! Even to the extent that I became a member...

Casey Winters

Tri Repetae and Chiastic Slide for sure. After LP5, it gets kind of wild and the albums are less consistent, with some occasional bangers like "Pen Expers", "V-PROC", "Jatavee C", "Altibzz" et al.

Couple of thoughts having watched this through. - their naïvety of sudden transitions (my paraphrase not yours lol!): it’s actually an early hallmark of Autechre. They clearly enjoy the idea of a musical jump cut, which leads me onto my second thought… - leaving you hanging: I think one of their most interesting explorations in music is how they tease with expectations but often never deliver. Their later work especially plays with this: insane dancefloor beats half dropping and suddenly being taken away. - the lowride piano sample: it’s a direct sample from Gang Starr’s DJ Premiere in Deep Concentration, but they got it from The Doo Bop Song by Miles Davis, so your jazzy catch was spot on. Using samples like this is rare for ae; it’s a nod to their hiphop mixtape roots (try some Lego Feet if you want to hear their genuine roots). Vocals and identifiable samples are super rare in later works. I think “is it washable?” is the only other vocal lyric I can think of. And for the next album, I’d recommend LP5. It’s enough of a departure from this era to be interesting without being too alien.

cool, thanks for the insights! And I've gotten a lot of recommendations for LP5, and Amber. Also Tri Repetae.

“I”ll be interested to hear where they went… what happens next.” So much lol.

I look forward to any future listens to Autechre that you may do, and I can understand the urge to jump all the way to the end, but I think it might be fun to do slightly less aggressive jumps, and don’t necessarily feel the need to only stick to LPs. A rad next bounce might be to go to the Cichlisuite EP. It’s way advanced over Inacubula, more melodic, and pretty digestible. Following that, Oversteps would be brilliant for its melodic approach. In any case, Autechre is kinda work. It unravels and reveals itself—to me, anyway—over time. I’m still chewing on it and I’ve been listening since the 90s. But it keeps delivering. It’s very fun that you hopped in, and started at the beginning. Thanks for this!

adeward

Totally agree about Cichlisuite. It’s the bridge to LP5!

Hold up. I’m rethinking my recommendation for your next move. Someone on Reddit reminded me you’d already done a listening party with Acroyear2 and you didn’t like it (although you were very demure, very mindful) so I’m going to suggest less of a jump and say Chiastic Slide over LP5.
